good idea bat man, ill see how the calibra one goes tomorrow, and then report back and then source a GTE one.
thanks :)
tilt the rad so the bottom points forwards, makes it easier to fit and cools better.
ok so i made my alternator bracket.
worked it all out, made sure it fitted and came up with this.

then fully welded, and made it look nicer.

and primed

ok just come in from some more (on a roll i know lol)
alternator bracket mounted.

and as for the rad, i went and looked at the calibra one and it was HUGE so i didnt even bother removing it lol.
and ages ago my mate gave me a golf one i think, about the same size as the beamer one i had, the same amount of cores and FPI so it will be ok.
and its thin, the brackets are still in development stage lol.

Rad looks tip top.
Brackets also tiiiiidy:)
See that rad is close to Nova size etc, and it fits a treat!
good going.
Still think you should try a nova one, least the inlet/outlets will be in a better place then..
Scott
That little rad look suspciously like an EK Civic item to me.
Martin, i run a 1.2 corsa rad on my XE nova mate and no cooling issues here.
thanks for the help guys, you make me sleep at night lol.
and my mate had it from his golf. so im sure its a golf rad lol. but i can get a part number from it and buy a new one if i ever need to.
and yeh yeh scott parker, it fits well thanks! haha, and i did think about the inlets, but i will just run a pipe along the top into the thermo etc.
as funky as your alternator bracket is, i think it will not be too reliable, and snap. if you put a pivot (bolt or similar) in the middle, then it will mimic the original bracket & you will remove unwanted stresses.
where do you mean mowgli?Quote:

Good work mate, liking the alt bracket. Will it still require an earth strap?
lol, i could hang a ship of the alternator bracket.
its 5mm plate and an inch of weld. its not going to snap in a hurry IMO.
the only thing which i could do, it put a side plate on where it bolts to the manifold to stop any twisting.
thanks simps, im not sure tbh, but ill keep it in mind :)
the alt does need an earth. and i would strengthen it, i did one similar for an xe and the harmonic vibrations snapped it within 200 miles.
martin, you are stressing the bracket in 2 different directions when it is bolted up. and flat way on is no strength. it will get a stress crack.Quote:

i will look at the bracket and see if i can redesign, maybe using RJ's etc.
and mowgli, surlyit wouldnt fall off if the top bracket let go, it would just fall backwards.
ok i am off work for 5 days, so i done a few bits at work today so i can crack on.
my next plans are to mount the rad with some better brackets, work out my water pipes. buy some brake discs, and fit them and the brakes.
and then remove the engine i think...
made my ARB lowering bracket. good times.

any more pics of that bad boy, or even a link, dont think i have seen it before.
and yeh i could go for a rose jointed turnbuckle, but SBD charge a stupid amount for the smaller alternator and its part of the kit.
here is the link it is a kadett c

thanks, not many pics! lol
Doesn't Spanishfly have a small alt for sale and there must be a reason why Gm originally used rubber bushes in the top tentioner bracket
lol, i have sent SF a PM,
i will wait until it snaps lol.

edd i want it at billing next year. possibly pvs.
and matt lol, why doesnt the rose jointed version have a rubber mount!
Surely you can make a Rose jointed one for a few quid ?
you could, but i cant find the middle threaded part.
any help would be great! lol
Make it yourself, bit of bar with a correct ID and then tap it.
noooo....Quote:

Small alternator is off a mini digger, rose joints and parts you can get from Mcgill motorsport on ebay or whatever their called.
OOHHHH thanks jonlem, i have found the turnbuckles dead cheap. i shall be investing in one very soon :D
No worries mate, I supplied a few of the digger alternators to a rally company a few years back, I forget exactly what they were off but it was a mini digger. They were just under £100 iirc.
kubota (sp) is one i sourced a denso job from
denso rings a bell.
but my mate is always saying. some other small one of a diahatsu. ill dig out the name.
edit.
cut and paste
Daihatsu Alternator ~
This is a short guide on how to wire up a Daihatsu/Nippon Denso Alternator.
The Daihatsu Alternator has long been used as an alternative to the Vauxhall, Ford etc standard items as they can be around 2-3kg lighter, fit in much smaller places and run at much higher revs.
The most popular one fitted is the Charade 1.0 and 1.3 litre variants although I personally fitted a Daihatsu Mover to my Vauxhall XE with success. Another popular choice is the Toyota Starlet and Bedford Rascal (van) which are equally small and light.
Most of these can be picked up from the salvage yard from about £20- £30. When searching for them, try and get the plug that fits into the connector socket as this makes for a tidier installation although this is not absolutely necessary. Also, they usually come with an insulating cap on the main battery feed post (grey in colour). Try and get this too as it will prevent anything shorting out against the main batter connector.
daihatsu cuore is another good un.
I believe there the ones I was getting.Quote:
