Hi all,
Thanks for the opinions on the gearbox's. The sccr is a fun and enjoyable addition to have so whether or not I take the leap to an F28 will be something I'll have to ponder over. Although the sale of it may become beneficial sooner rather than later! which brings me to were we are currently with the car....
Id made plans to drop the car off for checks to be made on monday morning. Before setting off I thought I'll just check the fluids.....To my dismay the reading was halfway between minimum and empty! Bearing in mind It was only two days prior it had an oil/filter change and the level was bang on upon setting off for billing. So that means its either passed or most likely burnt 90% of its oil in a 50 mile journey! So I stuck a litre in it and went and dropped it off. The guys have carried out cylinder leakage/checked crankcase pressure/compression test amongst others that I dont really understand tbh! Unfortunatly numbers 2 and 3 are well down. So its definately an engine issue. Obviously rings, bores, pistons are all suspect but until I have the cash and its stripped down we wont know the full extent of the damage. I did consider buying another engine but as the guys have said you never know exactly what your buying or how well its been built so Ive been advised to work with what we have So its rebuild time folks! Ive shared a few texts today with a few of you so some will know I was a bit down about it today but thanks for perking me up with some enthusiastic words! For a few hours I was considering breaking or selling. But when I think hard I do love everything about it and wouldnt want anything else at this moment in time. However I dont have the free cash to fix straight away so it will have to wait for a little while.... which gives me chance to consider my options. One being to sell the sccr to possibly buy a diff'd f28 and have a substantial amount towards rebuild costs? I want to do it properly so everything will be checked, freshend up or renewed including the /crank/head/bearings etc so it will cost a bit but hopefully that would make it reliable and trustworthy for the future etc. Plus as the motor is going to be coming out a change to an f28 wants to be happening at the same time if I decide to go down that route. The only upshot will be I could do some more painting to make it even cleaner! Things like the gearbox, block etc would all be done and the whole engine bay would probably be re done too if the mount gets changed so it would all be perfect for next year. The cars now back at home until I decide what route Im going to take and save some cash to fund it. Either way If anyone knows of a strong mechanical F28 with diff ideally that has had a freshen up please pm me as I may be interested.
Thanks for reading,
Nick.
