So understanding thats why I love her! :d
good work mate - you still local ?
me, you and lionel could all have novas done this year then
yes mate still local, just down the road from our last place.
Sounds good, shame Donington's gone, was looking forward to driving that, and what with it being on our doorstep! oh well!
What's the score with yours then? got any pics?
the silver one has took a backseat as a bargain came up ;)
should be ready to roll in a few months ;)

you will struggle mate tbh with the current facet location the pump is metres away from the tank
Ive seen plenty of those pumps mounted in the engine bay without problems.
But yeah they do work best mounted right by the tank
Looking well Ian
I nearly fell off my chair lol :pQuote:

Well I thought it was about time to bump my thread for a few bits and bobs I've done and acquired.
First off I sent my Mk2 Cav Dizzy setup off to H&H and had it Recon'd with the vacuum unit removed and the advance curve modified for the XE engine.
H&H Dizzy
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0134.jpg
Striiped my bias box down and cleaned / repainted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0136.jpg
Also made a start on my dash pannels, I got this switch pannel from the autosport show, but wanted to put the switches on my own custom pannel as below.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0137.jpg
I'm going to use the top sections of a mk2 dash. I've cut out the air vents and clock sections.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0139.jpg
This will then be panneled in with some carbon fibre. Got this from the 'carbon mods' website. (www.carbonmods.co.uk) Top notch service. Arrived the next day!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0135.jpg
Made up some templates for the dash and transfered onto the carbon, and cut out with a jr hacksaw
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0184.jpg
Then filed the edges up and made it fit nicely
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0187.jpg
Then fitted the switches from old pannel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0190.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0188.jpg
Also modified the dials binnacle to fit some more carbon fibre
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0182.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0191.jpg
Back to the bias box, got it all built back up and cut some rally mudflap material to cover the hole in the firewall and minimise any water getting in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0217.jpg
Also decided to cut out the slam pannel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0218.jpg
In regards to this info on the fuel pump I've had a think and decided that I am going to move the pump to behind the drivers seat so it is near to the tank. Then I'm going to mount my oil catch tank on the bracket under the bonnet.Quote:

Hows that speedo going to work? do you have to mount a censer on the wheel?
Scott
Nice to see some progress ian good update. As Scott said where are you going to get your speed signal from for the dash? I wl eventually try one of those dashes me thinks so it will be interesting to see how you get on with it.
Easiest way is probably off the cv/driveshaft
How much were the mirrors mate if dont mind me asking?
Quite fancy a set
Using the transducer from a 1.2i. It has a mech and elec take off...Quote:

Depending what diff he has, it may not have a speedo drive gear for a gm transducer....
I always like the sensor on the rear drum idea
Cheers Scott, Yea it has a magnetic sensor for the speedo.Quote:

Mirrors were £16.50 each from Rally Design, there not real carbon ;)Quote:

In regards to the sensor for the speedo, I have decided that I'm going to drill and tap the hub for the magnet to be screwed in, and then the pickup will be bolted through one of the holes on the bearing carrier where the brake disc back shield used to be. Obviously I need to enlarge this hole. I will post up some pics when I've done it.
I have done a few more bits on the car over the weekend, but I didn't take any pictures. I'll get out and take some snaps to update the thread this week.
Got the driveshafts built up and fitted, relocated fuel pump, mounted oil catch tank on the bracket where the fuel pump used to live, got drivers side door handle opening in using a T-pull cable, modified new exhaust manifold as it fouled the thermostat housing and then got it fitted. As said pics to follow :thumb:
some nice bits you got there bud!
few pics off my phone
Door handles fitted. Used a T-pull cable and some rachet strap

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0227.jpg
Battery Tray fitted in passenger side boot corner using a new very useful tool, a rivnut gun
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0230.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0231.jpg
Good idea with the pull cord handles, good to see you're still at it. :)
Superb stuff Ian, I'll have a poke around it when I pop over on Sunday.
Good work :)
Few more pics,
Fuel pump in new location

Waiting on some 90 degree unions as they will give more clearance at the back of the seat.
Oil catch tank in new home

Footrest ready to be riveted in

Hub carrier with new bearing and stud nut conversion
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0239.jpg
Thats now back on the car. Been making up some brackets for my dash pannels. Will get pics of that when I put it all together.
I would of used Loctite 270 for the studs as it's a stronger hold, not sure if the 242 will hold the studs ok with all the tightening and loosening of the wheels nuts.
It's so close to being started I can smell it. It was nice to pop over and see the Nova in the flesh yesterday. As I said if you need a hand with anything just give me a bell.
looks good matey should be a light one with most off the door being cut away ect!!!
Nice one Harvey, thanks for popping over, nice to catch up and see the gleaming GTE  :thumb:
Nice update mate, when you fitting the DTM's? lol
Also good call on fuel filter, and where you get the oil catch tank from, one thing about them, Ive often thought they need to fitted in the bay lower then the outlet on the rocker cover so the oil will not flow back? am i right, or does it get forced into the tank?
Scott
Cheers Scott, No DTM's here, although the fake carbon is probably as bad :p lolQuote:

:d :d Finally my brake pedal nightmare is over!!! Well glad its sorted...
Got an M10 threaded insert from McGil Motorsport and had it welded onto the clevis joint.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0241.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0240.jpg
and test fitted before I gave it a lick of paint
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0244.jpg
and the results = 3 pedals all where they should be!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0242.jpg
Got my other hub assembly back with a new bearing in, so built it back up and fitted the speedo pickup for the digital dash
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0245.jpg
Now, next up before I can get this hub on the car and it back on its wheels I need a new outer CV as the threads on it are fooked
However I'm not sure what CV I need... I have what I think are the M-Tech conversion shafts. The hub has 33 splines. After a bit of a search on here I found that I need a "big block CV" but couldn't find any explaination on what these are exactly??
A standard nova one or one from an astra/cav/cally???
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get the CV ASAP, so I can get the car back on all four's again
Cheers
Ian :thumb:
Any 1.8up Cav/Astra or Cally. So a 2lt Cav will be perfect.
(Nova ones are 28 spline)
What was up with the pedal? I must have missed it..
Thanks Benn :cool:Quote:

That's cool,
And ah i see, that is strange. Good work on fixing it tho.
Done a few more bits today...
First off heres a pic of the Ashley 4-2-1 Manifold fitted

Even closer to starting it now Ian :)
Glad you got the brake pedal issue sorted as I know it was really doing your head in.
