Just noticed in one of your pictures the coco cola you are using for cleaning may sound stupid here but is there any advantage to using sugar free?
I think the general ingredients in coke are the key, the sugar doesn't have an effect. I know traffic cops use it to clear the road of blood after messy accidents.
My issue is if it does that to baked on carbon what is it doing to your insides when you drink it!!!
Ahh thanks for the reply that's good to know and it's scary to think we drink the stuff but it is nice!!!
Just put a two or one pence in a glass of coke and see how quick it cleans up;)
Yeah as above, any Coke will do. I just chose that because it was the cheapest at 17p a bottle.
I'll update this tonight or tomorrow.
All I'll say is, it's had its highs and lows and now I'm currently at the lowest of lows with it.
Currently on the lookout for a set of Weber carbs, bike carbs or cheap Jenvey throttle body setup.
Keep the faith mate!! We'll get it sorted!!
We certainly shall!!
I defiantely will update this soon but for now I'll leave this here...

I just messed my pants!! Good work mate!!!
What's the engine spec?
Looking good liam
Cracking work Liam, that will look sweet in your car
Cheers guys.
Craig, the engine spec is standard as far as I am aware.
I shall be using just the Jenvey ITB setup and MBE management etc and keeping the engine as a spare.
Basically, even since I have had the X16XE fitted it has always had a slightl hesitation on any hard load. Basically everything has been changed and the problem was never cured. The engine was due a rebuild anyway due to smoking so I thought the hesitation may be linked with this.
Unfortunately, after rebuilding the engine and refitting it using a Dbilas ECU and new Dbilas inlet (That I removed off a Corsa Sport I broke) the hesitation is still there. It is also overfueling like hell. I'm guessing this is a combination of the cams, ECU and maybe a broken wire somewhere meaning a sensor isnt giving readings to the ECU.
So, that's why I've bitten the bullet and gone with the Jenveys and MBE. As it's a fresh base on a brand new fresh engine. It also means that I can get the most out of the cams too and hopefully see around 170-175bhp.
Really glad you arnt given up. Think youll be happy with the Jennys and mbe.
Set up seem decent you cant beat a small block on ITB's thats my plan but im using an x18xe1 and with bike throttles, so im intrested to see how yours goes.
I am too tbh Ben. I am really hoping the Jenveys give me the enthusiasm back big time.
Stick with it ,I know what you mean losing enthusiasm with a build
Now i've got a few minutes spare i'll update my thread.
Sorry if it's a lot to take in but this is 4-5 weeks of work crammed into one..
It was last left with having the rod caps modified for the ARP's.
The head was sent off to Phillip Nichols at Flintshire Performance Engines who fully rebuilt it using new guides, stem seals, recutting the valves and seat etc etc. He also tidied up my exhaust ports that I ported last year. This was done at a very reasonable price and was returned back to me within a week as stated before I sent it off to him.

It was around 9pm by the time it was all finished so we wasted no time in getting the car started and bed the rings in for 20 minutes. This was all done without any dramas and it started on the button (after priming the oil pump) which I was surprised about lol
It was then left like this that night...

Now for the part I kept a secret from everyone for quite a while. Ever since I've had the engine conversion, it's always missed that 'special touch'. I had stumbled across the perfect private plate about 1.5 years ago and ever since wanted it for the Nova. Fortunately, it was still available and I felt it was the perfect time to purchase it..
So, welcome everyone to C16XE X....

https://scontent-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hp...76433404_o.jpg
As everything was now back together and it was all legal for the road, I gave it a jetwash and took it out for a long drive to run the engine in..

Within 4 days, 500 'running in' miles were completed and the old girl never missed a beat.
As I had to do an oil and filter change I thought it would be the perfect time to fit my oil pressure and temperature senders using another sandwich plate. I also wired in and fitted the new gauges...

As I mentioned earlier, the Nova never missed a bit until the other day. As you can read above, the 'hesitation' appeared back again. Beforehand this was due to the inlet manifold leaking air (I believe) because it was running too lean but this time it started running too rich.
I lost all motivation and decided to put the Nova away for a few days to have a rest and get some motivation back. I never managed to find the cause of this but decided to get it out and use it a couple of times. The hesitation slowly got worse until last night when I lost near on all power and was getting serious pinking/detonation.
I managed to limp it home where I eventually found that the crankshaft sensor plug had slowly worked its way loose (obviously over a week or two) until it completely lost contact last night. After refitting it, I took it out again and it drive like a dream, absolutely spot on. So much so it scared me to a certain extent! lol
But, in my hastily fashion, instead of just giving up I put a deposit down on an engine package. As posted above, this engine package included a set of Jenvey ITB's with MBE management. As I thought the hesitation problem was either ECU or wiring related, and the fact i've always wanted a set of ITB's this was the perfect excuse to just go ahead and do it.
So now the Nova is running perfectly and the fact it should be fitted with a set of Jenveys by PVS, my love for the old girl has grown strong again!
Thanks for reading this very long winded update. I really should try and update my thread as and when things happen really...
And the last picture i'll leave you with is the last I took when I put it away and questioned selling up....

Really glad you found the prob and have the love back. That's great news.
As said before i love the plate. Have you thought of a cut down plate to fit on the front bumper?
I have Ben, yes. But for this year i'm going with 'function over form' with the Nova. So i'll be swapping the front bumper at some point with my other one with holes cut to allow more air to get to the radiator.
That is also why I haven't had the engine bay sprayed like I wanted to. As I just want to get the Nova out and actually enjoy it, do a fair few track days, a trip to Nurburg etc.
Then, during the winter I'll spend a bit of time getting the bay sprayed along with the new doors (as the bottoms of the current ones are rusty) and generally just tidy it all up again.
Totally fair, i know the feeling of just wanting to drive the bloody thing.
Are you not putting the cambelt cover back on ? good work mate looks great :thumb:
Hi Liam. I would like to know what fan do you have fitted to your rad?
Awesome build! When this has the TBs on its going to be perfect!!!
Yeah It'll be better when it actually drives properly though. My aim when I started was to get it Total Vauxhall featured and now it has I'm not too bothered. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep it up to a decent standard but would rather use it for what it's been built for.
Cheers. I won't be, no. I've modified the cover so the bottom half is all covered and only the verniers are showing.
Hi Nathan, It's actually a Corsa B aircon fan.
Cheers Mark. It really is and I hope they're all they're cracked up to be lol
A little update. I fitted my rear 3 polycarbs the other week but managed to get time to fit the fronts yesterday. Decided to change the rusty metal fasteners for the sliders for the same countersunk ones with red caps used in the engine bay.

SF Lever Jenvey's with vertical buttefly's? I have never seen a set of those mounted on a 4 cyl engine before. Any info?
Nice 'plate

Bloody hell, I thought I'd updated this! A lot has happened in the past few weeks including fitting the throttle bodies, spinning a shell within an hour, rebuilding the engine again using the new C16 pistons/rods and crank and running the old girl in again.
Hopefully, all is good now and she'll be all ready for PVS where she'll receive her first hammering down the strip!! It's fair to say though that a standard engine and oil pump doesnt like a 9k rev limit!
I'll just leave a couple of pictures here for people to admire...
The morning of a local meet at 11:30am. One engine'less Nova, and one piston and crank'less engine..

lol love the blurring... Hope it isn't sticker bombing.
My favourite Nova build around at the moment, as you know Liam!
Ive had a sneak peak and its def not sticker bombing Benn, will look great imo!
Roll on PVS ;)
