lol bulb out was the first thing I did too! I mean what ever next :P
ha like we is twins..
Or that it's annoying as funk being there.
Awesome work Benn those mirrors look brilliant. I knew you'd be able to make a good job of making a set.
I love your dedication to the car and how it's constantly evolving. Surely can't be much else you'd change on it now?
Thank you very much Ben,
At the start i was a lil worried i wouldn't be able to figure out how to do it nicely, But Scott gave me a few tips. Then when i had the case in my hand it all kinda just feel inline and i started cutting.
So annoying that the other side gave me grief, But know where i went wrong. so making another should be easier.
I just see things i want to make better/right. I'm still wanting to sort better wheels out. Then i can do the brake upgrades i want to do too. So there are a few things i want to do.
Could do with a full repaint too to tidy it up.
Nova is looking gay as ever Benn, nice work :thumb:
Cheers Si.
 cant believe you still have the car :thumb:
Still looks as good as ever :)
Just finished reading through from the very beginning, took me a good few weeks reading a few pages a day but such an awesome read and the attention to detail is incredible and even more so that you drive it every day, awesome work and can't wait to see more
Thank you very much. Hope you enjoyed the read.
Cars sat in the garage at the mo, awaiting a exhaust mods and the engine coming out for a few engine bay re-mods...
Still taking engine out through the top Ben? ;)
It was an extremely good read, theres so many bits that you dont quite realise the extent that you've gone too.
Aeesome work
ALWAYS! Cant see why anyone wouldn't.. lol
Sadly might have to come out again in the next few weeks.
Sadly what i'll be doing and where means it needs to out to do the work. I'd rather not if i'm honest.
I'll be honest, there's a few things i see on other people car and think "that's not right.. why's that there?" Cause i've forgotten i've done something too it.
But i'm glad as for me its all the little stuff you notice that make cars for me. I love seeing a build where you think "oh i love that they've...."
Thank you too.
Haven't been around the Nova for a couple of years due to a very close bereavement. So need to start my motivation up again. What do I do? I read this build thread and catch up from what I last saw! It's done the trick nicely, thank you. I will definitely have to recommission it and start enjoying it again. Maybe even get it to Billing this year.
Oh, and I like that you always reply to all comments. Nice touch.
Sorry to hear that, but glad you're feeling the Nova love again. Glad i could help with that too.
Deffo get it up and running and to Billing. Rolling in the summer sun with the roof back will be great!
Hhhmm been awhile since i updated this.
After all my ill running i changed some some BLACK plugs and fitted a new lambda,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psva6vdzto.jpg
This seems to have helped. Haven't had the bad running again.
Been very lazy up to crimbo, well, when i should of been playing cars, i've been in the gym or sat. Just tv lol. But though i should get on with something, as i've been putting off bay repairs.
So today i cracked on....
Starting to strip,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psewwylu5d.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pst3ddy0xj.jpg
Turbo off, pipe work off, rad out... Water all over the place.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psesvevu11.jpg
Vac pipes off, looming being unplugged.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps5bqfujfj.jpg
Looms ready to be removed, engines ready to come out bar the pass shaft.
While taking the drivers shaft out i notice my tyres have rubbed thru my make shift oil line shields. Don't know what i can do to protect them....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psedjqrgvy.jpg
Where i left it.... Ready to lift the lump out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pspa8xl2ah.jpg
I take it you'll be lowering the engine underneath the car this time Benn?.... LOL
so what repairs are needed in the bay? Any changes happening or just repairs?
Love your forever ongoing commitment to this car mate. X
Still the best car on here, real men can either drop it out or lift it out there are benefits to both :)
Ah, you a funny man.
I need to weld up the old servo holes in the bulkhead, there's also 2 brake line holes in the bulkhead which can now be seen with the servo gone. There's a hole in the chassis leg too, which there is no need for.. ;)
I have a small crack around the engine out too, which i might of made from when i smoothed the void behind it. So wanna sort that out before it becomes a prob.
Plus a refresh in paint's never a bad thing... ;)
i don't think it's commitment, more madness that i can't get it to where i'm happy with it.
Thank you Sir, means alot.
And yes there are pros and cons for both ways.
That confused me, 2nd to last picture seems to be reversed so everything under the bonnet is the wrong way round. Lol.
Had a good look round your car at billing 15, respect for the amount of work that's gone into it.
lol Selfie shot to get as much in view easily.
Thank you too :)
Lovely work as usual Ben
Lol didn't do much, but thank you.
When is the best time to remove your engine?
Clearly when its 2deg and starting to snow, so that's what i did.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psyrrjtphm.jpg
Sadly the pic doesn't catch the snow... Here's where i started. Pass shaft out, starter wiring off, loosen mounts and then attach the hoist.
Angle box end right down. Lift out the top.
I'll admit, it's not as easy by your self. But totally do able. As always something was still connected.. Dan spotted the oil lines where still on..lol
Couldn't find my engine trolly... Used my laying down board instead... Works well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pstd2xruwm.jpg
Leaving me with this.
Pushed the car back into the garage so i can work on it in the warm ish garage.

That was enough on Sat. i was frigging freezing!
Roll on Sunday.
Here's 1 reason i've got the engine out, this was a temp cover, that due to time i had to have on longer than i wanted.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psfhpiyrht.jpg
Under it, plus the old brake line hole and T piece bolt hole. That can all go...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps6kpauk7c.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psesideki5.jpg
Marked up the cover, so i could make a plate up...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psjadwiunl.jpg
Copy that on to metal, i wanted to fill the hole flush, for easy and better finish.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psiph9ykmf.jpg
Then to this..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psn8jp0hh1.jpg
Then this, backing plate, with hole plated welded on, ready to flush the front off...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psah1zwbmh.jpg
Back.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psko4pfuuj.jpg
Welded in.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psicx9s19m.jpg
Due to not being able to get my grinder in there i've not done the brake line hole. Waiting the new bits for my belt sanding then i can get in there and get that done too.
Ground off and sanded back to flush.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psndtnhldd.jpg
Light skim of black fiber glass.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pspqgumiv0.jpg
That's it for now... More soon.
Oh bar my obsession with things matching the colour of the car....
New welding mask. Is soooooo nice. And almost matches!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pssvwraacu.jpg
Spannering around freezing point. You're mad. 😁
sent from my Nokia 6310i using the keypad
Great work Ben ,you are a better man than me I lasted about an hour before I gave up and went back in to the warm !
Big turbo upgrade for the engine now?? Phwoar! lol
Nice work and respect for cracking on in this weather,I was out the same time stripping an engine on the front garden, really wish I still had a garage
Respect, my engine came out in the rain too, driving wind made it feel like minus 10!!
What else you planning while it's on the bench?!
True Vauxhall heroes aren't we lol
Yeah it wasn't nice.
Cheers Gez, if i could of, i'd have been on the Sofa under a blanket watching tv.
But you have a large ish garage dont you? Must be a lil warmer in there?
Nah, cant be arsed with that. At most i'd go with different managment to remove things like the afm and stuff.
No garage at all? bad luck, that must make everything worse! I'll be honest, woke up Sunday with my knees and wrists aching like funk. The gym was a real struggle!
Horrible at the mo isnt it. When it started to snow, it was the first time i thought "really?! Now?!" lol normally i'd love it.
Engine wise nothing i dont think. Sump could do with a reseal as it's still leaking from some where. Might fit a new starter too.
Heroes? Mentals more like...
I work indoors, but don't be fooled its colder in here than outside. Propane heater is a trade off between gassing myself and being warm.
The plus side with indoors is you're covered from the elements, whilst it might be as cold/colder in some cases you can always warm up.True about gassing,my space heater is like that, can be carbon monoxidey lol
I really miss my garage lol
When you have a van bigger than your garage it means I spent time fixing it outside all the time
I remember your old workshop, i can imagine it was freezing in there!
I have a lil elec heater, which with the door closed just takes the edge off.
Being out the rain makes everything easier. Plus you dont have to put everything away each time.
Bigger garage needed..lol
I'm getting a car next lol
Lil bit done.
What to protect the car more, then welding and grinding. Saw the plastic sheets you see on Hotrod and bike building shows... They are alot of money.
So a trip to the scummy Range got me... Yes a std shower "curtain" is the same width as a Nova.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps0r74zhhz.jpg
£2.99... Does the job.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psq3wzoteg.jpg
Doesn't stop the dust tho....
Fiber glass sanded off, gave the holes next to it a gentle tap to recess then in so plates could be welded in. As one of them i can't get to the other side...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pslcaonx1l.jpg
Holes welded up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psdczjpgol.jpg
Started welding the small holes in the steering arm hole up.... As they are very untidy.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps1mcqq2df.jpg
Bit of sanding left me.... haha
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pswu9axkja.jpg
More after my holiday.
