pmsl @ Beef...done that a few times! lol
Have never professed to be a brilliant welder. Have improved a lot over the last few years, but still a way to go to get anywhere near professional!! More time needed!
All the welds I have done have shown good penetration through the metal and 'm confident with their strength. Where some have ended up a bit chunkey, i've grinded them down? would love to get every single one spot on, but that will take time..
I use a Snap-On 150 amp machine which I got off ebay a year ago or so when my last one packed up. I put a 'euro-torch' on it as it?s a much better gun to use. I run it on 0.8mm wire and BOC 'Argoshield light' gas.
cheers lads
pop up sometime Kev... :thumb:

Have now started the long task of flairing out the arches.
Strated with the rears and paint stripped the matalwork
Then drilled out all of the spot welds around the arches
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...5.jpg~original
Then cut the atch with the grinder to make a load of tans which I could then beat out..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...7.jpg~original
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9.jpg~original
Then welded the lines up...leaving the last cm or so, so that I can fold the lip back under and then weld to finish.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...7.jpg~original
The arches fit the wheels just nicely now, although this pic is a bit dark..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...6.jpg~original

I've left these now. Just waiting for some more body solder so I can finish then off..
Then moved onto the petrol cap location.
Got a mk1 golf repair panel off ebay
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9.jpg~original
Cut panel to shape and cut the hole in the rear panel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...0.jpg~original
Tack welded in the recess and then continued until the whole perimeter was welded...had to take time so that there was no distorsion in the panel
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2.jpg~original
Ground back..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...4.jpg~original
Cap fitted up. The other holes in the panel have now been welede up aswell..

I have welded a bit of 10mmbox along the edge of the top of the rear boot panel to strengthen it, and welded the latch to this..
