I'm surprised that a garage owner hasn't offfered to do the repair or give you a cash settlement as when all this does kick in, he is going to be well out of pocket, insurance premiums, excess and I assume VOSA will at least penalise him some way. Apart from being foolish and not watching what happens to customers cars in his care, he is also a foolish twit as he is is being self destructive with his attitude. Oh, and a lot of bad publicity so lost trade.
Be patient, I think you are doing the right thing.
