I know back in the day when Rick Draper did this his car drove crap and he went back to standard, was enough to put me off bothering.
Oh really?
I thought for the small amount of movement it would affect anything major...
Maybe i should swap back and see what happens...
Its imperative to swap back.
I'll have to try it then. See if it that. Cant see why it would drag the car left tho....?
Is it only under hard acceleration?
Torque steer style drag?
No, i took a left hander at about 6 out of 10 on power... a corner that before i could go at 8/9 out of 10....
I dont think its torque steering at all really...
I'm Impressed nice to see its still going strong :)
Cheers dude, still rocking your brace too.
Nice work on flipping the steering arms. It's confusing as to how it would make the steering pull to one side? :tard:
Same here....
Jacked the car up to day, tested the wheel for bearing play. Nothing there, took the wheel off and pulled/pushed on the caliper to check for play...
Dan spotted that my bottom ball joint was moving alot.
Turns out the bolts that go thought the lower arm, ball joint, spacer and tie bar had come lose! Even with nilocks and being done up very tight.
So did them back up (am gonna take them apart and lock tight them)
Took it for a drive... Bar now the tracking is out again it didnt pull at all. Gave it some abuse and i could hold it fine. Bar the feeling the trackings out. So am happy.
Thought it had to be something like that ,glad it was an easy fix
Had similar on my Astra but not as dramatic the bolts were over tight so striped it was just clunking a lot swoped bolts out for 10.8 tenstile ones and it's been fine
I remember Rick Draper having a similar problem..... he gave up before checking for loose nuts
Well then there is a blast from the past. Didn't even need anyone to point me in the direction of your snide dig either #bellend
I had no loose bolts or nuts at all on my car, countless people tried it and said it felt bad, I think it was a huge combination of things. Still JonnyA had probably never driven a nova with a true bhp reading and is all internet talk.
Just pleased these days I don't own a nova anymore, have a very comfortable living with a new motor on order and my mother does not drive a vauxhall nova either that I named after my old one for some ungodly reason.
I see you haven't changed a bit lol
My post was in reference to this one:
Me and Ben talk a lot about our work and it was a bit of a private joke referencing Lee mentioning you having issues, however it wasn't even remotely aimed at your car, work or you.
So I hope you feel good about jumping the gun slagging me and my mum's choice of car off like the asshole you obviously still are, tis' a shame all that money hasn't helped with that.
But you do spend your time looking on a nova forum? By the way love the # arnt you down with the kids
Me too, its what i was hoping to find. Something stupid i could sort easily.
Easy to do, some people dont like anything above 10.8 as they can be weaker
Yea? Ok ill look in to that as i wanna make sure this doesnt happen again. So a std nut with threadlock. Never thought of heat.. Was thinking more virbration...
Another small update.
While on ebay i found some weapon side light bulbs. They are 13 mega bright sm LED.
Nova side lights come in at a funny angle, so a normal led bulb doesn't tend to be that bright till it's fully dark. You tend to see a spot of light. Was never happy with that and normal bulbs are yellow and dirty looking..
New on left and old on right.

Before (5 led)

New.

Stand back....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psu58xok9h.jpg
The difference is very clear. New ones are much much better and where nice and cheap too.
Later that night......

I sear that is just the side lights...
In the garage...
Just sides,

With headlights..

A very nice upgrade.
Crazily bright sides, nice!
Yes they are. I like to use my sides as much as i can with headlights only when fully dark. So these will mean i'll well seen. Plus they look so nice and clean and clear.
Nice upgrade on the LED bulbs there Benn. The bulbs themselves appear massive in the pics, but seeing as they are sidelights they must be small like regular filament type bulbs.
Benn are you running HIDs?
The are double the length of the small one, the small ones are the same size as tha std 501 glass bulb. The width is the same as is the fitment.
Fantastic upgrade, well worth doing.
Nope. Had some years ago. Utter shi*e in a Nova, crap beam, light all over the place.
I do tho use 100w "offroad" bulbs.
I had some in my nova gte I have some in my golf now they are so much better they look good benn :)
Lock wire them
Oh, I run some on mine & think they're really bright / clear on a 6k (after ditching the projector lenses) and that's only with a 35w bulb ~ the ballasts are designed to take upto 55w.
Which are we talking?
Gonna get squshed end nuts with loctight.
Someone did suggest that, could be a good way to help.
I had 8k as i liked the cleaner/hint of blue light. But never got what i class a good beam paton (used the mot bay light machine abut 8 times)
Found these uprated bulbs to be just as good...
As the cold has set in and the gritters are out. It's the perfect time to have the car off the road.
So it was time to tackle the gearbox removal and rebuild. Due to it crunchling badly in to 2nd gear (up and down)
Got the car in and started stripping.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psmtj00h4v.jpg
Got it almost all unbolted when Dan and Peter turned up to help me wriggle the box off as it's bloody tight in a Nova.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pspz0soc9k.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps9snkjqyf.jpg
Now i remember where it's very tight!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psegzmwli6.jpg
One F28 dropping oil, even tho i drained it!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psuj1ba7f8.jpg
When it was drained, the magnet had quite a bit metal on it and a circlip...
Big thanks to Dan for helping me get the box off/out.
After a big of a tidy in the garage. I've got space to strip box boxes and swap the diffs over. To have a nice non crunching box with a nice Quaife diff in it.
Next i wanted to tidy up the bottom of the bottom of the chassis leg up in the engine bay. Now some of you will think i'm crazy as you can only see it a tiny bit. But i notice it all the time as it was welded and ground off then painted back when the bay was first done (2004 ish) since then it's been painted over again twice. Second time the finish wasn't as good as i hopped. So i thought while i can get to it make it a bit better.
I was thinking a sand back and re paint. Guess what happened......*
Bit dirty, due to the last test drive being in the semi rain and i've scrapped it a bit when removing the box and while deciding what to do.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psr4styh7v.jpg
10mins later... You can see the untidyness more now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pseebkraoh.jpg
Bit of surface rust in that dip bit too. Think it's just a water trap. At the bottom you can see i've welded that seam up too, as when it was first built it wasn't done. (around the hole for the arm bolt was and the join on the top was) So i welded the seam that wasn't and ground all the welds back to make tidyer. Welded the small hole up too just for tidyness too.

Then a rather untidy skim of stopper to make smooth. Will knock that back and primer it tomoz.

Filler on a lower suspension mount, Benn sir you are insane.
It will be sanded right back so only a very thin skin is left. So cracking i hope won't be an issue. And it's just something i always see and wasn't happy with.
Awesome attention to detail as usual Benn!
That area used to bug me on mine, I also think you should either, weld & plate over the oval hole in the member behind it (at the base of the firewall) or paint inside the cavity black.
See where I mean in your pic?
This makes mine look like a shed !!!!
good work mate
MORE smoothing?!?!? Is that even possible? ;)
Thank you Sir.
It's a very untidy area isn't it. I was looking at the oval holes. I wish i had welded them over when i had the engine out last year, just time run out.
I templed to plate it while i have the chance. But i might have a small plan in hand...
haha whatever!
Cheers dude. I should come see yours come time.
haha you know me. Never seen to be happy!
Just a boring update.
Sanded the filled back to leave as little as poss as its the arm mount.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps37v4benk.jpg
masked and primerd.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psqlhhkkrt.jpg
While doing that i took my rack out.. That was surprisingly not that hard.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pslhjw8mvy.jpg
Out, ready to be swapped for a nice shiney one....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps3xmegejf.jpg
Gonna sand and re-primer tonight. I've also filled using a sealant the dip/gap in the middle. As it's a panel join i didn't wanna fill it.
