Absolutely beautiful car mate just spent past 2 hours going through your build brilliant attention to detail and a inspiration I can't wait to make a start on mine now
Great stuff as always :)
Got my other hub back, gave it a lick of paint.

Pressed in the sleeve.

Yes i touched the paint up :p

Rebuilt it all back up. put the car back on the ground. Rolled it out the garage for the springs to settle. Took a photo.
Remember this? This is what started this all...

And now with the arms inverted. (really crap photo tho)

Much better.

Altho it does show my m/c is leaking.. GGrrr :(
As ever I always enjoy reading your build thread Ben and love to see your always keeping your Nova tip top, when a build gets to the highest standard though how do you keep the motivation going?
Have you thought of fitting cruise control to it btw?
How will you push the boundaries on this car on years to come to make it just that little bit even better ;)
Thank you very much, nice to hear.
Motivation wise, i fix/redo the bits i dont think are good enough. More of a needs a must, rather than wanting too.. in some cases anyway.
I have a cruise stalk fitted and all the bits, just nlt gone around to fitting the motor and bits.
ben i hate your car
its slow, and in tatters... and everythings done to a piss poor standard lol
/\ lol
Have you driven it ben to see the difference?
Not yet, had to re route all my wiring that's in the arch. After repainting it. That's all done now...(Stainless Pclip, didn't notice the coverings come off the loom there tho, oil cooler lines have been 2way Pclipped up too)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psgmksruop.jpg
Tracking it at the weekend as it will be toeing in like a mofo now. Then i'll test drive it and make a video too.
No time for sex tapes Benn, you need to save those wires from full lock rubage.
Checked that, that's why the thinner ones is a bit oddly run. It keeps it away from the tyre... I do want something to run them in tho. Will look better.
Plus i can't get anywhere near full lock!
Wanted to make my "air box" look a lil better, now this is only a plug really. I have a friend that does fiberglassing, so he'll gonna make me a Carbon fiber one. So i just need this to look and fit right then it can be copied.
So with the wing off i did a few mods to it to get it fitting right. Then stripped to fix.
Patton drawn to use as a fitting template.

Casing bits needed to be shaved as they stop it all sitting flush.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psm1qlysoq.jpg
Trimmed a bit more off here and there.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psjraggdio.jpg
A few spot welds if you will.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psxtayhyg9.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psmrcfzavi.jpg
Then plastic welded it fully to be sealed and fit right. These will be smoothed before a mould is taken.

One last bit to add in for some strength and i can refit it. But my soldering gun got very hot, so had to stop. But will finish it tomoz and then refit.
Should be interesting with an airbox, will it be big enough and not suffocate the airflow would be my concern Ben.
Had the air box in there the whole time. Was just screwed together tho.
IT's totally open front the front so should be fine. It's just stopping anything being flicked up front the bottom/back really and to make it a little more water tight.
Nice progress Benn. I like it how you always find something to tinker with. :thumb:
I can I suggest that fiber would be better ?? Anyway looks good
Cheers Niek,
What kind of fiber? Zeifer?
as i can look on the pics, you have a perfect matrix to use fiberglass, or if you are refined carbon fiber.Using plaster, you can create a pattern to make the piece fiberglass or whatever you want.
I thought of CF as its strong and looks nice.
it's only my opinion, anyway your solution is good to. The problem with the CF its so expensive, sometimes I use vinyl with CF appearance to put on my fiberglass pieces to get it a better look.
I have a friend that works with CF so i should be ok.
Love the air box Benn. I think it's what your car really wanted. + still have plans for the corsa servo? That would just finish it off nicely. Any chance you could point me in the right directions for some pictures of your intercooler cut out, intercooler and rad. Might save me hours of scrolling thru your thread on my super slow iPhone. Lol
love the work keep it up i may also be making some kind of an airbox for my inner arch
Cheers Ben, it just helps to protect the filter and afm really.
I'd like to try the corsa servo at some point yes. But unsure when.
IC cut out... Erm.... Would have been around May 2010...lol no clue on what page tho...
Thank you. Mines made from a plastic battery box from a boat.
Interesting, so your making a box to try house the afm and filter over the inner wing?
Under the inner wing I think you ment Scott it would get splashed to buggery without something
Sorry i didn't see your replies.
THe box is to inclose the AFM and air filter from water/dust/dirt/stones and such that might be flying around the wheel/arch when driving.
It's open front the front for air flow and there will be a air intake on the top from my wing vent.
What?
With the steering arm mods done the tracking was miles out. So Petor came over with his gauges to reset it for me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps1o2gkmfu.jpg
Simple mirror with light and gauge set up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psdsjt4vea.jpg
Petor dived in and did it all. Got it back to 0
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pso4te7pw6.jpg
Then i drove it.... Christ it was shocking. Trying to turn left, tramlining like crazy. Barely driveable. Dan drove it and said it tired to change lane on it.. After a chat, I was thinking it was still tracking, Dan was thinking gearbox/cv/shafts or something...
After a bit more messing about and be driving it again, i was thinking tracking. Even tho Pete has checked and adjusted it.
Popped to Protyre to get a 4wheel work up done.
Guy says to me as i drive on to the ramp "can you rise the back up? While looking a bit worried, then asked "it's on air yeah?" Nope, static all round i told me as i laughed.
Told him how he has to take the scaning wheel things apart as they have to run on the sides of the wheel not the top and bottom.
Bit of spanner action and we're ready to roll.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps733szqhb.jpg
The n/s wheel was a -0.36deg. the o/s was off to but not as bad. Not sure what happened or why. But it was reset back to well with in the limits.
Drove it out, was alot better, but still not right. Still kinda pulling and tranblining. Then went giving it maybe 6/10 power in to a left hand corner the car changed lanes. I dont just mean it gently pulled, i mean it yank me hard over in to the left lane.. Scaring the sh*t out of me!
Then start to make a kinda grumbling noise at me.
I'm now thinking Dan was right and i have gearbox/cv/shaft issue.... As what else could make it do that.
On a plus note tho, bump steer seems to have been reduced also totally.
Oh and my air filter might be sticking to far out... hahaha
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psco101hvk.jpg
I could be wrong as I am no mechanic ,but it sounds like a bush / suspension issue as it sounds like the geometry is moving when you put it under load ie turning .i would get it on a ramp and get a long arm on all bushes etc to see if there is any movement ,also check your rose joints and steering rack for play ,was the camber checked when you had the tracking done ?
I thought it was running then you did the reverse hubs and put it back on the road? Nothing else has changed?
Yeah, i know all the bolts are done up, lower arm bushes are new. Track rod ends didn't feel like they had any play.. Rack felt ok too.
Camber was checked yes. i get quite a lot..lol
It was. bar the track rod end swapping sides, nothing else has changed...Which if frustrating.
If it's been put together right it can only point to them. How easy is it to press out the inserts and reverse the taper again to trial it out?
Gonna disagree here Iain; If the car's making noise from the drivetrain it'll be something there / closely related suspension ~ not reverse tapered steering arms.
Hub off, in vice with a socket and it should come out with some pressure.
