I went out and get damned muddy and fantastically worn out on the local trails today too, after a mooch round a bike jumble sale, where i managed to pick myself up a 1990/91 Klein Pinnacle frameset for a ridiculously low price :d
We went to Hamsterley. Was nice to see the newest red DH finished this time. Last time I came bombing down, and was met with loads of vans and barbeque carry on. Braaaake!
Sounds like you had fun dude. :) Never been to a bike jumble before! Nice grab on the Klein! Building a period one?
We just did some local trials, but as im sure you will know, wet leaves, rain and gloopy mud really take it out of you, i think we did about sixteen miles but id say 60% was uphill, offroad, and im waayy out of shape and had a bit of a struggle with it, but the 1993 lava dome performed flawlessly, barring the bit on a technical descent where i ran out of talent (used to sus forks and not used to rigid) and lost the front wheel on a wet root, ooh, hello bramble bush
My right arm now looks like ive had a word with mr krueger lol
Dunno what im doing with the Klein as yet, but it was epic cheap so i couldnt say no :d
Oh yeah, I can relate. Today my mates Specialized was on semi slicks, and with SPD's, so he kept stopping on the technical stuff and a couple of times I fell off/front wheel slipped under me as I wasn't expecting him to do what he did.
I was overprepared today for a change. Too many layers! Sounds like you chose a different way! lol
Diggin the old school Kona btw!
I was out in my work trousers, a t-shirt and my trusty png hoody, was fine but i got real hot so rolled up the sleeves on the hoody, just before i took a forray into the bramble bush, damn lol
This was the steed of choice for today....

Although it now has Xlite stubbies in anno blue, and panaracer fire mud pro's on, did really well on the muddy climbs, couldnt keep the front end down though lol
Wow! That's a very welcome blast from the past!
I used to have a translucent Crud Catcher too. lol
Thought youd approve dude, here is my 98 Caldera (love this bike)
