Did he recommend what bilstein rating to use - I've got 270/120 Tarmac inserts in my Pilbeam struts, That seems to be the standard spec - although you can specifiy what bump and rebound from Bilstein if you have the money !!!!
he didnt, he just said they were all the same! he is selling them at 12 plus vat plus postage so not much change out of £150
i wouldnt have thought
ralloy sell these http://www.ralloy.com/ral2062-bilste...rt_c51p299.php and they are about the same dimensions as what hockly said but there cheaper, what do you think about them ?
I'd say those were for a Mk2 escort as thats Ralloys speciality - not sure if they are differnt although worth a call to check
Give these guys a call (Its where your quaife lever came from (Cheaper than from quaife direct ??)). Although it specifies for a Corsa B - They use the same strut so I'd have thought nova stuff to be the same

EDIT : Sorry cant get link to work properly - click on corsa at left side of page
Martin Kelson got his bilstein struts from HHMS - He may have more info on spec
Dave
thats great thanks dave, ill give them a call tomorrow
Doesn't say on my delivery note from Hockly what mine are.
Blimey though in 2003 I paid including vat & delivery nearly £500 for a pair of front shocks!!
Must of been feeling flush back then
Shouldn't look at old receipt's!!
was that for a built up complete set of front shocks? as i see hockly is selling complete front shocks now for £326.29 each!!! and i assume that will pe plus vat too, crazy money!
anyway montgomery motorsport ftw, got a bilstein insert on the way from them, think ill change the other one to the same before it goes on the road
Good news - Although they were in Ireland I've bought a helmet as well as the quaife lever off them - Arrive within a few days and always a bargin price :)
ive had to get some decent pics of the car for insurance purposes so i might aswell share them

Absolutely stunning, is she road worthy/mot'd & taxed now then?
Looks fantastic mate! Roll on the mapping............. Cant wait for the passenger ride.
Nick.
Quality, how come your temporary engine covers are still on there though?
not roadworthy yet, just need to sort out front strut issues and get it mapped then it will be ready for the road
Lovely car. Good luck with the mapping
Now i will get shot down for saying this, but i was never as impressed as some when Brett had this car, but now mate I'm very impressed with what your turning it into!
A proper built engine to match the sort of performance it should have.
And the water pipes in braided is very interesting, did you get the tank customised for that?
Also have you got two blow off valves?
Best of luck with it all mate
Scott
thanks for comments, graeme the temp covers will remain until mapping is done to prevent any scratches etc
thanks scott, much appriciated! i only have the one bov, the other part you can see is the wastegate, the tank was modified with 2 aluminium weld on -6 jic male bosses so i could connect the -6 braided fittings to it
matt
1 blow off valve and one external wastegate in the same style it looks to me Scott.
Always loved the motorsport styling of this :)
How's the fuel tank attached may I ask?
Beautiful car.
Looks stunning, So tidily done, everything looks just right in and on the car. Stunning job done. Really really wanna see this in the flesh.
Are the rear lights tinted?
Thought so. I like.
Absolutly stunning! The panel gaps and fitment of everything is perfect and I love the new tailgate and rear bumper!
Im going to say this is probally one of my favourite ever novas!
thanks for the comments guys
benn, yeah the rear lights are tinted but im not sure exactly how they have been done, you would be best asking fearless on that one
broadghost, the tank is bolted through the floor
matt
Rear lamps are standard Nova spec (one Euro) - orange indicator lense lightly tinted with black tint spray - and then the whole lamp re lacqured clear to get the shine back !!
Quite a simple mod and cheap but looks slightly different :)
Dave
Looks spot on Matt as expected.
Looking forward to seeing it again in the flesh :)
Pics sent via email Matt - let us know how you get on
Dave
stunning chap, love it! :)
Stunning indeed, i like how the bay, even with the let fitted, still looks simple, clean and well laid out.
thanks guys,
adam, ive just tried to keep everything as tidy and neat as poss, its a tight squeeze but im happy with how everything fits in now
dave, thanks very much for the pics thats a massive help, my new inserts are the same as yours apart from they have 5/8 unf thread, ive just got the parts ordered for it now
well ive been having some problems with the front suspension just recentley due to one of the decarbon inserts leaking and also not allowing full travel, so i thought oh well ill just get myself a new insert, not just quite as easy as that though was it !!
decarbon no longer make inserts, so i got myself 2 new 270/120 bilstein inserts only to find out the top mount area was completley different to my old decarbon ones in that the part where the top cap sits is a d shape instead of just round and the threads were a 5/8 unf thread instead of my old m12 size so my top mount/cap werent just going to fit straight on to the new inserts hassle free
so anyway after thinking about what the best way to go about it i decided to ditch the 4" dia spring setup in favour of some 2.25" ones as they are more readily available in different lengths and rates and i could buy the top cap and 5/8 unf nut off the shelf to fit my bilstein inserts
so here are the new parts
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ew172/0012.jpg
i bought 2 new lower spring seats too as you can see in the pic but i then found out the pilbeam strut bodies have a unique 2mm thread pitch unlike all the normal ones that have a1.5mm thread pitch so i gave hockly a call and he told me he wasnt aware of anywhere that would have any on the shelf with the correct thread size but he could make me a set as a 1 off at £70 + vat + carriage!!!
so i took my wide platforms to my local fabricator guy to see if there was any way of utilzing them for the 2.25" springs, there was and this is how ive adapted them to work
as they were in std form
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...172/006-38.jpg
machine up a collar to sit in the centre to provide a flat surface for the spring to sit on like so
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...172/003-47.jpg
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...172/002-49.jpg
spring sits nice and snug inside the seat

and built up

Your hands are so butch and yet look so soft..
Touch me with them....
Your bits look nice too....fnar..
Christ that's some work on the shocks, great job with the platform tho. Like how the springs sit in them.
Not been on here for quite some time!! Still see the same people are are busy tweaking there novas!!
Matthew... What can I say! Awesome! Improved an already amazing car!
Not missing my old car, simply wouldnt have the time to do anything to it other than drive it, if I had kept it who knows what I'd have done! Same situation as DIY Dave I reckon.... Sit there for years untouched lol!
Let me know what shows your going to in this beast and I'll try my hardest to come and have a gander!
Cheers
Nick
Looking forward to seeing this at Billing :)
hooligan car :d , very nice
