Filthy?
looks shiny as foook from where im sitting lol
replied on mig.. keep it up dude, need to see this.
Nice work Craig!
Gonna make the CAMP?
I'M A HAPPY BOY!
Got the engine running last night. Major thanks to Chris (ck) & Adam who clearly know what they are on about when it comes to ECU wiring, though it would appear my wiring was not at fault so I can be happy about that.
Off to get the exhaust system fitted up tomorrow, tow the car to TSR performance (VAG tuner local to me). After that its a case of tidying up some loose ends, sticking on any bits of trim that havent been refitted & investigating why this brand new heater matrix doesnt hold coolant....
MOT it & tax it for the start of June.
Simon, I certainly wont be bringing the GSi camping as it means taxing it for the last weekend of the calendar month, a blatant waste of money!
Good progress mate - Hopefully see it at PVS then :) ?
Yeah touch wood, all being well.
The car seems to be throwing everything at me it can at the moment to not make it.
glad to hear its running chap!
what happened to the agjustable, threaded alternator adjuster?
Good work! Whats up with the water leak, sorted it yet Craig?
glad to see the progress this/you have made in the last few months looking great bud. bet your feeling so much better knowing it will be at pvs for the first time in years !
wahooo lol. glad to hear u got it running mate, bet its a big weight off your back.. do the tax last lol, get her finished and mot'd. then the first day of june tax it and your done lol. :D cant wait to see it at pv :) sod it im putting my sport engine in my nova and bringin that to pv lol
Keep at it Craig :thumb:
More hassle than it was worth or rather, couldnt afford the cost of custom machining something, so have put it on the back burner for now. I was probably trying to use rosejoints for the sake of it tbh. lolQuote:

I'll be chuffed this time tomorrow when it purrs through a full length exhaust. :D
Good progress Craig, I'm looking forward to PV, there's gonna be loads of freshly completed projects!
This is more stale than fresh. The car is jinxed where PV is concerened so I'm not outta the woods yet!
Awesome stuff.
Im pleased you got it going, as you always get your motivation back when the engine kicks into life :D
WHat was the prob then? Those cut wires?
Appears so. Its odd though, because it wouldnt fire when I simply reconnected them & turned it over (even held the key in for probably 6 or more seconds..) Wired in the temporary EML like you said, the light stayed on for what seemed like ages (didnt go out) but I tried it anyway & it fired 1st turn of key really easily. I removed the EML & tried it again & it fired & I let it run for 5 seconds or so before I felt it was too loud & killed it. lolQuote:

No rush as long as its done for today hopefully. Suffered some horrible scrubbing at the rear towing it across town, aswell as a hand brake thats over heating & burnt the paint off the disc.
Anyone any ideas on that? Drum was ringing/humming.
well as soon as you get it back post a vid of you starting it, me and ck want to see your reaction to the engine :)
OK. My reaction the other night was. (jump)!!!!!
Was bricking it off the manifold in my single garage. LOL
haha its a beast of a engine. you will be shocked how well it goes and how smooth !
If I ever get it sorted. Really feeling quite 'down' about it all at the moment.
Tenner says I end up going to PV in a FORD!
na dont say that your be there in the gsi. even if there is something not right with the engine side of things, as soon as i finshed the xe in the loon im sure me and ck can come up and help
Handbrake shoes not adjusted correctly so there sticking on???
Keep up the enthusiasm mate - Still ages away to PV :)
Yeh if 2 more weekends is ages away, lol lolQuote:

Seriosuly though, I know the feeling its the little bits that take the longest.
Good luck, keep us updated :thumb:
I dont think anything is binding, I would've felt it I'm sure.
Maybe as the 16v disc setup is intended to do all the breaking & the handbrake is a parking break, it cant dissipate the heat like std drums do??
Just driven past & seen the car being worked on for the exhaust, so it should be ready tonight.
i dont understand that mate  Im thick speak slowly and clearly lolQuote:

Keep at it craig, your so so close, you can't let the 25 nova stand down!
Well she's home.
No sound byte/vid as I think my neighbours have had enough for tonight. It sounds like a valver though. Loud as feck!
Obviously with the issues I have with coolant system I havent run it for very long anyway.
I think the brakes are OK. The EVIL noise that I thought was the brakes is one of the coilovers rubbing the back of the wheel. A spacer will sort that, but for anyone reading, if installing coilovers, I'd suggest moving the lower damper mounting inboard by a few mm to avoid this.
Anyway, too much excitement for one day, so I'm off down't pub!
Awesome news.
What have you had done to the exhayst/system then?
Great news, looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. :thumb:
Quality news mate - Get some pics coming :)
The BTB manifold has a really oddball (but clever) flange on it, I had the corresponding flange welded to the front pipe of the system I bought off Glen & also the manifold seems to end just off to one side of where the std down pipe would end, so the system has been altered to line up.Quote:

Glad to see it's nearly there Craig! :D
Thanks Oli.
Be good to see yours in action again soon. I was stunned by it at Llandow last year.
Cool.
NEARLY done
sounds promising Craig - it's nice to read you're ontop of the project again!
bummer about rear coilover scrubbage... what tyre sizes do you run? and what rear coilovers do you have? (spring ID aswell)
AVO's at the rear mate. 2 1/4" ID (?) Its actually the inner lip of the speedlines that is catching. Hardly any damage to the wheel or spring but mucho's worrying sounds... I'm going to try to move the damper inwards rather than just space the wheel over. My GM 15"s which its been on whilst I've built it clear fine. 6" as opposed to 6.5" widths.
