Oh I see...not a bad idea at all :thumb: Plus I should get rid of the cross member that runs across the floor at the front of the seats, then some lightweight wheels, then a FG roof and door skins..........Sub 600kgs???:cool::cool:

You still have those cross members in? Fatty! I have a f/g roofskin for sale :p
How much? (although I am skint, so don't get your hopes up!)
Want £120 delivered, let me know if your intrested:D
Too much for me, I'm all about the Tesco value prices (student bum), but thanks for the offer :thumb: I think I'd probably want a cross diagonal on the cage above my head for a FG skin too, which then just adds the weight back in lol
Oli, now... I can certainly see some weight saving could be had in this photo... now I know you have a toy engine, but there is no need to have a rad fan the size of africa lol

I've got no comeback to that, you're bloody right! lol
11" Spal front mounted blower fan, eBay, £22 ;)
i'll check it out at lunch. Cheers dude :thumb:
Grrr, bloody novas
Right....Got to work on the box after work today. Started around 12.30pm was flying along, had it all apart and cleaned up the casing a bit

Swapped the pinion over to the new cluster
Old, standard F13 cluster
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...v/DSC00740.jpg
New HH SCCR cluster
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...v/DSC00739.jpg
Weighed them SCCR 13.45kgs
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...v/DSC00741.jpg
Standard 13.3kgs!!!! DAMN! I've gained 150g
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...v/DSC00743.jpg
All the above was done in no time, I then spent ages trying to get the cluster in, but it kept stopping about 10mm shy of the casing. So I tried Lee303, but he was baffled too! So i thought I must be being a pansy and decided to gentle tighten the bolts to close the gap. Once it was back together I checked the input shaft to see if everything was spinning as it should and to my surprise it wasn't. So back apart with it all to inspect what was up....

It seems the gear set is fouling the casing, probably due to loose tolerances on the casting. So I called it quits for today and will go in early monday morning and pull the diff out and machine down the casting. Also gives me time to buy gaskets and a new release bearing.
hmm, thats very odd, but it does seem to be a casting issue, pretty sure mine cleared there but fouled in another place, oh well at least its obvious enough
oh, and told you it would be heavier, better steel is more denselol
Nice mod that OLi.
Pah, whats 150 grams?
Too much, thats what!!!Quote:

Shave your nads.
Already done :( Maybe I could lose a few teeth :D

What you will possibly find is that the SCCR gear near the top (the end which runs in the bearing in the casing) of the main shaft is a little bigger diameter than its helical counterpart as catches on the casing. I had to grind a little of this away (unfortunately you have to remove diff etc due to ally filings) and hey presto all was good.
It took me a bit of head scratching as its not totally obvious where its fouling the casting :tard:
HTH
Thats exactly the problem i'm having :) You can see the marks from the teeth in the last two pics :thumb:Quote:

Mine was really difficult to spot as it didn't leave any marks on the casing, bloody tolerances lol
Collected my gaskets, release bearing (rip-off from Vaux) and Oil, yesterday evening.
Came into work an hour early this morning. Cleaned up the casing (removed the swarf from the grinding that was required to fit the gearkit) Gears are back in, diff is installed and bearings preloaded. Just need to fit the selector turret, release bearing and diff cover. Pics later :thumb:
Nice one pal... looking forward to seeing some piccages :) Keep us updated mate
More hugely exciting gear casing pictures
Ground down and cleaned up

All clean

Nice clean ATB diff

I've fitted the release bearing and bolted the selector turret on, just need to fit the diff cover and tap the dowels back through that locate the casing halves together. Then its re-fit tomorrow afternoon and some thrashing :D:D:D
:):):):):):):):)
Have spent the best part of two (half) days trying to get the box to select properly and have had no joy, so to cheer myself up I commenced the most dramatic set of changes to my nova yet. Here begins ''Project Aero''
Front aero is gonna (hopefully) yield big improvements to performance, increasing grip through downforce generation and reducing drag by restricting the flow underbody. I know it looks a bit chav, but to be honest I couldn't give a toss lol

The area of the splitter region of the bumper is approximately 100 square inches, therefore just 1psi of pressure at the front of the car would give 45kgs of downforce. I intend to have a horizontal extension from the base of this splitter that will be adjustable to allow me to tailor the downforce. This splitter extension will extend rearwards and slightly down under the front of the car to produce a high-speed and therefore low pressure region, again increasing downforce. This will join into a flat floor and rear diffuser set-up :thumb:
gahhhh stop blooding spending on the car, and use it for what you've built it for!!!
its currently not broke, so don't try and fix something, that works (aerodynamics) lol
how many times has it seen the track this whole year? lol
Oh noes! Nova headlights!!!!!!!!
is that a magnum bumper? i did like those back in the day. :)
It is a Magnum bumper and Lee the headlights are going back to the minty ones ;)
A picture speaks a thousand words, so here's a million words worth of video :D

Oh noes, it sounds like a mini lol lol
That sounds like its perfectly on the boil to me my friend. Good work.
It really does sound like a mini when it's off throttle, from the outside it sounds like a motorbike apparently :D
sounds very  !
Welcome to the EAA my friend :)
I wasn't gining it full beans in the vid casual gearchanges etc, as it was only just fitted. I did drag it up to about 7+krpm in first to verify that it does show over 60mph on the speedo tho
EAA? :wtf:
Ear Ache Association lol
I'm definately in that! At certain revs the noise goes straight to your brain :tard:
should you have one, I can quite imagine it does :D lol
sounds uber cool mate,
