Hopefully someone has some pictures to go with it.
ok it wont operate in the "normal" sense and as said will make your car slower. on a petrol when the butterfly shuts it creates a wall in affect. on the inlet side of the "wall" vacuum is created which is used to open the dump valve. on the turbo side of the "wall" as the turbo is still spinning it continues to create pressure to the point where so much pressure is created it overcomes the turbo and makes it stall which means as you open the throttle the turbo needs to spool up again aka lag. fitting a dump valve releases this pressure so the turbo doesn't stall and therefore reducing lag.
on a diesel you don't have a butterfly. which means no turbo stall or lag instead you have a constant positive pressure which is good as you come back onto the throttle you have full power available straight away. if you choose to dump out this pressure you need to wait for it to build again hence making it slower.
that seems a very long winded way of putting it but meh i think i makes sense.
Could be leaking as the neck is painted.
As Burgo said, its not ideal on a derv. Its possible to fit, but you need a microswitch that opens it up and what not - I had all this on the cav but had spud remove it before picking the car up.
That aside, the bailey I have is good. Tested it on the Celica when I thought the Forge one might have been leaking so I can vouch for it being Ok.
I have the micro switch etc. the dump valve will open only if I completely crimp one of the pipes. Then and only then does it open.
