Thanks for pointing that out Rick :thumb:Quote:

That would be spot on matey thanks!
Any standard UK spec consumer unit should be able to cope with a 100+ Amp device? Ive never had nay issues with breakers going out when using mine?Quote:

Anyway, some top progress, and some prefection welding pictureed there!!!

whats stronger.
4mm plate or 2x2mm double skinned?
Depends which way you load/hit it I'd say, in the case of those turret tops you're gonna get a little more flex with 2x2mm, which means it'll hold up to a higher load for short lengths of time generally (you can probably stand on a riot shield and not be filled with confidence, but the way it flexes means bricks don't go straight through it) but if you loaded it up on a stress tester you'd probably get a lower break point compared to 4mm.
I'd say the 2x2 is more likely to bend/deform under use, but less likely to fail, unless the welds go from the flexing of the material around them, but they're probably stronger than the material itself lol
Here are some pics:

On second look the top plates welded in are twice the thickness of the first plate welded in to the top.
As said its a toss up depending on how you look at it....Quote:

I started out cleaning up the N/S turret ready to be made a permanent fixture of the shell
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1082.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1083.jpg
Then went on and cleaned off the funking under seal around the turret hole what a c u n t of a job that is
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1086.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1087.jpg
I cut the turret to size and fitted it up for the first time - some alterations to the hole were needed...
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1088.jpg
Then after even more fettling (at least a hour!) i finally tacked the turret in
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1091.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1092.jpg
And welded it home for good - drop the bomb!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1102.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1103.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1104.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1106.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1107.jpg
While i was waiting for the poor welded to cool off i decided i would make up the strengthening plates for the other turrets in the same way as before
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1093.jpg
Then i cleaned up the inside of the first turret on the O/S ready for the plates
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1094.jpg
Primed, fitted and tacked the plated in to position
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1097.jpg
Wow some cracking workmenship going into this now :thumb:
Looks soild welding on the struts. How many hours did it take to get all aligned up and tacted into place? Between the welder nearly on melt down :D
I then moved back to the N/S to continue welding the turret in
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1111.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1114.jpg
As you can see in the pic below there is still a fare bit of material that needs to be removed once i have welded the turret in from the inner arch side (i still have this to do)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1115.jpg
Again whilst waiting for the welder i cut these up to possibly use on the turret tops to mount the cage (even more strength to the turret tops!)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1116.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1117.jpg
And they should look a little something like this if they will fit with the cage
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1118.jpg
Once the welder was ready to go again i finished off the turret plates on the O/S
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1120.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1121.jpg
Here are another couple just because i liked them lol
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1123.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...urrets1105.jpg
And thats me done for today thanks for looking :thumb: :thumb:
Anyone else???? ;) :D lol ;) :D lolQuote:

Why thanks...to get them aligned up and tacked in to place it must of taken 10 hours! And it will probably be nearly 20 hours all in but they have come out well IMO so i'm happy :thumb:Quote:

Just read this the whole way through (housemates had high school musical on, f*** that lol) Some quality fabrication work etc, and the ideas it's built to are great, low weight and no holds barred on the performance! That race head is pure engineering porn too lol
Are you going to put markers on them at messured distances very similar to a ruler ?
I do indeed 08:00-16:00 5 days a week plus over time lolQuote:

The car is meant to be a track car so it has different specifications to daily drivers, basically if it makes you quicker i want one lol
You work at Vauxhall as a welder and this weeks project was your own motor. We know lolQuote:

are the strips for taggin in the cage to the shell?
I may not cover the welds inside the car yet (more weight lol) i might just paint them with everything else. I can't help myself as far as progress is concerned, i would still be out there if it wasn't for the neighbours!Quote:
