lol I noticed that as well and thought WTF and then realised its the throttle pedal which has been removed to allow for stitch welding:D
Had a bit of time spare today to look at sorting out a home made gear lever mechanism. Wasn't sure what to use as the main bearings/bushes for the connector bar from the lever assembly, thru the bulkhead into the engine bay. The bar has to move backwards and forwards as well as twist. Eventually I hit upon the idea of chopping up old shock absorbers and using them:

From the debris I extracted the top seal and bush which go together on the shaft like so

Next I offered the whole lot upto the hole in the bulkhead to see how it came together

With a bit of modding this will be welded in place at the the right angle to allow the shaft to be able to move in the correct alignment. If you compare pictures you can now see the value of moving the steering rack up
Some great ideas! Loving the rack re-location!
Finally I had a go at making the gear lever assembly. Its not exactly going to be light but I haven't had to buy any new stuff so if I can get it to work ok I will have save shed loads of dosh. I've utilised another shocker and this time cut the main shaft and welded it together side by side to get the necessary offset. I've used the seal and bush in a similar manner to the previous pics so that when installed there will be 2 of these guides for the gear shaft to be located in. The gear lever rose joint assembly is one of my old tie bar mounts that I no longer need.

Top work.
Lol @ chopping up a shock to make a gear linkage.
..NOW I AM IMPRESSED!
Grass roots modification at its best.
just read the whole thread, some very impressive ideas
intresting
