The plate was taken from a Corsa B in the scrappy, it unbolts from the Corsa.
Well, I've decided I don't like the Hammerite under my car - it's just going to chip off, look rubbish and leave little protection in 6 months time.
So I've started stripping it down:

I'm using this stuff, POR15 from America, meant to be applied to bare metal and supposedly stops rusting very well on vehicle chassis':

I applied POR15 Marine Clean, then POR15 Metal Ready, rinsed off, let it dry and applied POR15 Rust Preventative paint:

Plan is to topcoat this with POR15's Whitecote - a similar product but white. :)
Also took another trip to Autosprint where he re-balanced my crank as it has been reground since last doing it. Also balanced my rods up for the new pistons:

You can see material taken off here. Some have lost their numbering I filed in, but I guess it won't matter too much since everything is brand new?

Crank is ready for bolting in now, so I've sorted out the endfloat centre main bearing. Both sides got materal removed with 240 grit...

...until I could fit a 0.1mm feeler blade in the gap. IIRC Haynes says 0.07 to 0.3mm gap so should be fine:

I really wouldn't have washed it. The POR15 looks good tho. Good work on the rods.. Get the engine built up.
Washed what?
Well you said rinsed.. I wouldn't have gone anything wet.
Was a bit weird wetting bare metal, but they recommend POR15 Marine Clean and POR15 Metal Ready which both require rinsing off with water. Blasted it with my compressor it and made sure it was dry before painting anyway.
It wasnt the washing that was the issue,
it was the very dark grey cloud approaching after the first coat :p
You get the second coat on Iain?
lol Yeah rain held off ok, got the second coat on once the first was tacky as per the instructions. Does look quite good black, but maybe just cos it's different to what I'm used to seeing, hmm.
Is this not finished yet???
it was nearly ready for building back upQuote:
