Hi guys, This is a little update of what we've been up to for Matt recently........... As some of you know he's never been a big fan of the back end of his motor and has wanted to change it for a while. Now I just happened to have a mint early tailgate sat around which I let him have and he found himself a genuine gsi rear bumper. Im sure you can guess were this is going! However he did want to go for a smoother look so we welded up the holes and filled/primed it to suit...........

That was left over christmas to allow for any movement in the primer and blocked down once I was back in work along with the bumper. We opted to use the original 2k solid paint the car was previously painted in as oppose to base and clear not only for a better colour match but also so these panels will in time fade with the rest of the cars paintwork and not standout at a later date which is what could have happened if we'd have used a quality clear. Just earlier today I got the colour on and heres's the results..........

Hopefully tommorow will see them flat/polished ready for Matt to collect sometime later in the week. Im sure the majority will agree they should really suit the car and improve its overall look no end. I for one cant wait to see them on! This car is going to look stunning once its roadworthy again fella. Hope you enjoy the pics,
Nick.
Lovely Nick.
Cant wait to see this again. Not sure if i have seen it since took ownership.
Brilliant work as ever Nick, get on with your own now and stop teasing us lol
I've not seen this car in the flesh for a hell of a long time so I hope Matthew your bringing it out of the garage to some shows this year.
It's been so long I've forgotten what the back end looked like before, any before pics? lovely fresh paint as usual Nick. :)
cheers for that mate, they look mint cant wait to see them on the car
Awesome
Smooth boot, relocated recess plate in bumper iirc.
http://www.pngclub.com/forum/[IMG]ht...n/DSC04660.jpgThe new rear will look alot better but I must admit this is the only Nova that suits the smooth boot and number plate recess imo...

Yeah but you see, as im old and have seen this car loads of time over the years, i know and still think of it staying that way lol
But imo the smooth boot/plate recess is so 2001 lol an i like the fact matt's no putting his own stamp on it, as i think you have to when you buy an very recognized car.
Scott
That will look much better now imo! Stunning car all round ;)
this car is my all time favorite nova:cool:
Nice I think I will prefer the new back end much more :)
I know there was a thread on mig but is there a full original build thread on this anywhere?
The good old days.

Is that Martin there looking very young?
yup, and stuart cox in the background on the left when he had a nova, think he posts on here still, possibly rob delicata sat down on the right too? at billing but what year? 99?
Funny did like the rear of it, but this new look will look great.
Awesome car, will it be at any summer shows?
thanks for all the great comments/pics guys i hope to have it finished and at some shows this year
Billing FTW

i got the spoiler taken off the smooth boot eventually and i found a simple but very effective way of getting the holes for the spoiler in the correct place on the new boot
a bit of ratchet strap! hold left end flush with the side of the boot and running level with the recess the window rubber sits in and it runs nicley over the centre of the spoiler holes so i just marked the centre of the holes on the strap and hey presto!

ive also decided to go with equal length shafts now and grp a hub/knuckle setup, my knuckles are away being machined atm for the bigger bearing
Boot does look better, whole back end wiil now, more upto date so to speak.
Nice trick with the strap.
Looks much better, why did it not have this boot on in the first place !:p
Looking forward to seeing it all fitted up! :thumb:
