Toyo T1Rs are top of the list 195 45 15, considering it's quite a light car, has anyone run with 175 or 185 50 15 tyres, on a car expected to be driven hard? I remember driving my friend Ryan's nova on 185 50 14s profile tyres on steels and remember it feeling more responsive to the same car on 195 45 15s maybe due to unsprung weight? But is 195 too much tyre for a light car? I guess it's wishful thinking as I don't wont to grind the arches after repairing them, and the clearance is not what I thought it would be, dam rear beam tolerances. Jumping up and down on a rolling shell does not replicate suspension travel in a bend.. Got brand new falcons on it but we are guessing the steering wheel wobble at 60 mph is due to flat spots on the tyres, thanks to it sitting still for so long.
Last time we ran the car we experienced unreliable oil pressure indication, when it's hot it never get above minimum oil pressure however the oil light is not lighting up, when running. So it's not terrible (I hope.. its the low pressure light thats important.., I'm telling myself, as they mapped it on the dyno like that and it ws driven to London from Newcastle and back with questionable inidication) but it's concerning me. I got burnt by the the guy who completed the map on the engine, complete waste of money, went back to original map as it was on off throttle and rediculously over fuelling/ crazy high fuel consumption, so my next guess is bore wash and the oil has thinned with fuel. Does fuel in the oil sound reasonable to you guys? We have replaced the sensor and checked the earth to rule that out.
In order to do a bit of DIY mapping and keep an eye on lambda, which wideband sensor and controller do you recommend to work with a dta e48 ecu?
The idea is to visit Royston next week and pick the sport up from it's luxury resting place, thanks again Royston and drive it to newcastle to tidy a few things up at novacabrios.
Hi Paul, I would stick to a 185 width tyre. Its not just the size, its the make of tyre as some are wider than others and have bigger shoulders which are more likely to scrub.
What oil are you running in the engine? Have you had an independant oil pressure tester on it to check it? Is the pump known to be in good condition.
Does Mark have a spare set of clocks you can try as I would not rule out the guage being knackered.
I am running Castrol TWS Motorsport 10w60 oil and my needle sits all the way over to the right when cold and not much firther back when hot.
this is looking really fantastic mate a lot of hard work and dosh spent seats look well now did you get them retrimed and if yes can i ask wereQuote:

I have had seats repaired in the past using a passenger seat for material to make it as original. I use a trimmer in Derby called Stan Chilton, they are proper Old Skool trimmers and there work is excellent.
Its been run on Castrol RS(which is the non BMW version but the same) for years with no issues. It is used in M3's and its fully synthetic so if its good enough for them its good enough for a Nova :)Quote:

Its running on Vauxhall semi 10-40. like you my experience of the pressure gauge is full when cold, when hot it drops to 1/4 when idling and full again when under load, so it's had me guessing for a while. We have tried out different sets of clocks already, we have quite a few between us. Yeah for piece of mind I would like to independently check the pressure, i guess I need to find a friendly garage.
The seats were retrimmed using a doner set of seats for the bolster material by a mobile upholster, Mark has the details as he kindly organised that.. Along with most of the rest of the recent rebuild, thanks again to Mark.
It's currently got 195 45 15 falken ze702s I think on it. But I'm getting wheel rub with any weight in the back, even the spare wheel is enough, I really don't want to grind the arches, I made them wider in order to keep the lip and give more clearance but it wasn't enough, since we have wheel wobble problems I'm thinking of a different tyre, any recommendations for tyres with smaller crowns, to clear the rear arches. Could tracking be responsible for speed related steering wheel vibration? as it's not the most pleasant car to throw around at the moment.
Tracking maybe a issue, more likely to be the wheels need balancing IMO
In my experience depending on certain brands you'll always get tyre rub with 195's with a 15" rim. I prefer a 14" rim with either 185 or 175, I'm running 175's due to the offset of my wheels. I also beleive that a smallblock nova drives/handles better on 14" wheels.
The wheels have been balanced and rebalanced, which is why we think the tyres have slight flat spots from sitting in one spot for a few years, I've not had this problem before, but my cars have only sat still for a year max before. Or its a tracking problem, which was done by this rally preparation place, which I'm not exactly impressed with, so I don't trust that, Mark had a quick look at the tracking, but it's still can't be ruled out.
I hope you get the problems sorted paul, i hope your coming to billing i cant wait to see the car in real life and not just pictures.

Hang one, who's car is this then? bit confusing..
Its Paul Woodcock's, he was/has been a PNG member for years.
Mark Ridley(Novacabrio) restored it for Paul last year.
Ahh, i see, i could see Mark was working on it, remember it's start etc, but then i noticed Paul saying things, got a bit confused there.
