armed with these i went down to my garages. found a problem with the TX autosport vernier pulleys though, they dont have the correct timing marks on them. one didnt have anything and the other had a mark in the wrong tooth.
i made my own marks going by the standard pulleys and set the timing like that. fitted the belt, tensioner and guide pulley.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3047.jpg
have got the XE inlet cam on standard markings for now, when i have it dyno'd i can get them to play around for max power. still getting a gain from it being on standard timing.
after that i fitted the exhaust stud kit. rather tasty.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3052.jpg
i have been wire wheeling the gearbox ready for some paint, just need to find the the correct wire brush to get into all the corners.
thanks for looking
bruce
Ahhhhh have been looking for that exhaust stud kit, where from? lol
a guy over on mig. ordered yesterday and came today.
http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/items...arts-more.html
50pound is alot of money but it looks good and my head was off a XE so didnt have the correct studs.
You're right it is a lot of money lol Shall check on eBay see if I can find some, maybe even go to Vaux and ask there see what it is with trade discount.
Either that or some copper effect paint lol
i rang vaux before i bough it. was like 1.28 per stud and 2.24 per copper dude.
if you only need the copper nuts then should work out cheaper. you'll need twelve in total.
That's £42.24 from what you said, is that with trade discount? Pretty sure the studs are ok but I'll need to double check.
£50.68 with vat. ;)
i presume so, i rang up and said bruce from saint martins motor services, i am after....
Coolio, will hunt around and see what I can find.
looking good mate
thanks joshy
update
during the week the gearbox got a freshen up. mire wheeled it down ready for the primer. once primered, it got a coat of silver.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0042011180.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0042011182.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1042011183.jpg
picked up my starter and alternator which i had checked over and a couple internal things replaced. were rather grubby so wire wheeled them and gave them a quick coat of black.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1042011184.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1042011185.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3060.jpg
today saw more progress on the car, not much though. both doors fitted on awaiting paint. i didnt use the original door pins but m8 x 60mm button head bolts and nyloc nuts.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3056.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3055.jpg
fortunatley the door misses the filler cap.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3059.jpg
filled both the front engine mounts with lots of the black stuff
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1042011186.jpg
now, some of you might remember what happened with my engine crane when i used it last. if not, check page one.
put a little thought into the strengthening of the legs, quite a cheap fix and hope it holds up. i got 2 3mm thick plates and bent the one edge up 90degrees to provide some strength to it if it decided to bend again. got some wide washers to spread the load even more from any stress of having the engine on the crane.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1042011187.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3054.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3062.jpg
fitted both gearbox mounts to the box ready to be mated to the engine.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3061.jpg
fitted the flywheel with the arp bolts and clutch onto the engine.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3063.jpg
got the gearbox ready to attch to the engine. was rather tricky doing it alone and on the ground, but i got it on and bolted up.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3066.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3065.jpg
with the weather changing rapidly and clouds starting to collide creating thunder i decided to call it a day. when trying to get the engine back in the garage i almost had a horrendous accident. the back corner of the crane lifted up off the ground due to having the engine lifted up about a metre. i managed to hold it from tipping but i need some sort of ballast holding it down. managed to get the crane back in the garage ready to fit straight in on monday hopefully.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...DSCN3068-1.jpg
more progress shortly
bruce
Its a Ass getting the F28 on to the block by your self isn't it... Good work.
it definately is, especially in the baking hot sun when your sweating like a black man.
Oooh it's on the crane :d not long left till it's in.
lol very true.Quote:

all full with water
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3073.jpg
got the engine in the air and tilted sideways ready for entry, brought the car closer to roll the engine into it. the crane was still bending.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3074.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3075.jpg
got the engine in eventually and all the mounts lined up. pic of me looking busy. :d

will be going back down the garage in an hour to continue on with other jobs.
thanks for looking
bruce
Woo Hoo it's in :thumb:
Hoping to get mine in there like that fairly soon. I got a stand but not a crane so trying to think of ingenious ways to get the engine in the air for me to work on it lol
Looking absolute mint mate.
Did you drop the engine in from the top?
wait until its stripped and then lift the block on the stand. undoing the head bolts may be interesting though.Quote:

but, progress has been made.
purchased a 3month old forge actuator for the turbo
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3578.jpg
painted the turbo in heat paint (like mr tek has) and fitted the actuator.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3579.jpg
picked up my powder coated header tank which i had done in the same colour as the cam cover
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3628.jpg
pipercross air filter turned up also
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3629.jpg
after reading some reveiws on which tyres i wanted it was between toyo t1r's and uniroyal rainsport 2's. i opted for the rainsport 2's as they apparently have the same grip capability as the t1r's but last longer. plus there meant to be awesome in the rain.
so i got 3 ordered up at work as they had none in stock. the t1r's were in stock but as mentioned i didnt want those.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...9052011201.jpg
and fitted...
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0052011203.jpg
my forth alloy already has a t1r on so that takes care of the tyres and wheels.
my coilovers turned up from gaz, top blokes to deal with. had the fronts machined ready for the eccentric top mounts.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3630.jpg
removed the rears i already had and measured them up against the new shorter bodied ones. there's about an inch between them.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3588.jpg
got those on along with my wheels which i gave a clean and polish.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3636.jpg
dug out my top mounts which i had bought ages ago
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3631.jpg
fitted the top mounts on like so, from right to left.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3634.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3632.jpg
for future referance i measured the body for any body that wants to know it.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3641.jpg
and the total length
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3642.jpg
great stuff, dya reckon you will make billing?
fitted them on, look a million times better than those old shocks i had on there. lol
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3649.jpg
lowered it back on the ground....oops.....rather low.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3652.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3653.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3660.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3658.jpg
after that i decided to move onto getting the seats back in the car, they need a damn good clean still but they were in the way in the garage.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3666.jpg
harnesses washed and attached in the eye hooks
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3668.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3679.jpg
moved on to 'p' clipping the wiring harness down to the inner wing. used aluminium rivits to hold them down.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3672.jpg
got rather bored after being down the garage so long so messed about with a few things, the main thing was this....
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3670.jpg
oooooooh it has power. :d thanks to my new battery i got from work.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3671.jpg
needed to check my boost hoses and intercooler still fitted. dont see why it wouldnt. :tard:
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...52011200-1.jpg
thats it really. its booked in the bodyshop on the 28th to have the rest painted, the exhaust needs sorting aswell which ill get done after the bodyshop. im still awaiting some small bits and pieces to get it running but hopefully shouldnt be too long now.
more updates to come soon.
thanks for looking
bruce

roosemotorsport sent me out a nice new top hose.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3683.jpg
mr silicone sent me some 8mm fuel hose, 13mm fuel hose and a selection of 't' bolt clamps, again, 'p' clips, fuel hose clips and polished stainless pipe for my bottom hose.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3682.jpg
fish tank one valves and 't' pieces for the vacuum tubing.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3684.jpg
also taken delivery of a gear linkage and tailgate pins. my rose jointed linkage is rather stiff to use so have given up on that one untill i get the car up and running. dont want to be messing around with it for it not to work. it doesnt self centre either as its too stiff. apparently thats what there like until they loosen up.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3681.jpg
modyfied the linkage to suit the f28, gave it a paint and fitted it. have all gears selectable but will need a test drive to confirm.
intercooler hoses on the inlet side fitted and clamped up. there not the neatest but i need the car on the road asap so untill i have more time and money to deal with it it will do.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3685.jpg
i gave up with taking pictures as i wanted to crack on, ill hopefully remember to describe what ive done.
fitted the radiator, top hose and IC support bracket
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3691.jpg
piped up all the vacuum hoses from the dump valve, hot start valve, turbo and amal valve. tried to hide as much of it as i could under the inlet
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3692.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3693.jpg
made up the bottom hose with 2 45 deg hoses and stainless pipe.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3704.jpg
to make things easy on myself and so i dont damage all the filler in the firewall im going to route the loom across the front of the turret and into the battery area. once there ill take it into the cabin.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3703.jpg
at this point i got it so it was cranking over. i still hadnt got my fuel lines in or pump on, didnt have a fuel pump relay or the top nut for the oil feed. so i left it and went home
after contacting will foy i made a very late run down to his at 10pm to arrive at 11pm. picked up the aforementioned so i could make a move with trying to fire it up on sunday.
et voila
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3705.jpg
sunday
dug out my fuel pump and gave it a clean. the fuel reg thing was way past its best and all i had was my battery drill to try clean it. it wasnt going to happen. so for now it will do.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3707.jpg
made up all my fuel lines and mounted the pump into the powder coated bracket. had also bought 4 litres of fuel for 6pound. all i could afford. lol
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3711.jpg
so after some cranking to try get oil pressure it wasnt happening. the light on the dash wasnt going out and none was coming out of the turbo return. so decided to strip some parts down to check why i couldnt get pressure. the relief valve on the oil pump was free and moving. there was oil at the start of the oil feed for the turbo so was at a loose end. i cracked off the oil feed nit on the turbo and cranked to make sure oil was getting through. it was so tightened it back down. cranked again and i got oil pressure!!! it was air locked at the turbo, i was so pleased i had sorted it. didnt fancy stripping the engine back down.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3716.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3715.jpg
after that i went to fire it up. it cranked and cranked, eventually heard a pop, to my delight its what i wanted to hear. after some more cranking it attempted to start. after some more it ran a bit better and so on and so on. it doesnt stay running for long, longest i had was around 20secs. my exhaust isnt on so no lambda. my amal valve is wired up, the EML light isnt wired up yet so im hoping once i get those sorted it may run better. but time will tell.
the cars off to the bodyshop on the weekend so tonight ive been sorting the panels out.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3719.jpg
some messing around later it looked like this
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3720.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3726.jpg
that isnt the bumper ill be using, was my test bumper. im yet to cut up the one ill be using.
one thing im concerned about it the red mesh in my bonnet. is it too halfords? if so, what do i replace it with? i like the red as it helps compliment the other red on the car.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN3728.jpg
at the moment ive ran out of thoughts in my head, yet again ive most likely missed something so please ask any questions if need be.
thanks for looking
more good updates to come:d
bruce
Looking good dude. Metal pipe in the water system looks familiar... lol
aha, you caught me.:p
My eyes see it all..
look good mate nice and low
Great work, I bet you'll be well happy when it's all done and should look perfect when back from the painters and all the panels matching.
What an earth will you be using the 13mm hose for? I'm still waiting for my bracket for the fuel pump. Good ol' eBay, knows exactly when to funk up and mess ones plans.
Is your rocker powder coated black? or is it grey? Looks grey in the pic but either way looks great. I'd do the mesh in black or body tbh, looks a bit... you know.. in red... sorry!
