More weight saving lolQuote:

Strip the paint off the cage, and leave it off, paint weighs!
Glad you like the colour, i take it you mean put the hole saw on the bench grinder?Quote:

Loving your work :) Coming along nicely.
There is more to come lol i have a few more things i wish to try watch this space :D
Loving this build, it gets better and better
Nice purchase on the cage there. I was interested myself, but it was a little too hardcore for what i want :(
I.e. would mean having the hack the ends of the dash etc off

Cage looks good. You sorted the g unit you wanted?
Coming together nicely now James, The spec of this is going to be crazy!
Good stuff mate:thumb:
Cage looks heavy  :p
Nice wotk as always James, beam looks lovely :thumb:
I knew you of all people would say that and i'm going to weight it at some point to find out what the damage is....but its a necessary addition of weight imo as i prefer my head the shape it is and not like a squashed melon!
Oli i also wondered what size space you are running? is it 25mm with a 7inch rim on a 45ET?
Definately necessary weight, safety is one area where weight can be added IMO, it also stiffens the shell obviously and that's a plus :)Quote:

you can just use a grinder for a quick job and fill the large gaps with weld lol
As we are still on the subject of the cage i got it back from sand blasting today nice and clean well worth the investment imo and no effort what so ever lol
It came out like this...the pics are sh!te BTW as it was dark

Then i got some primer on it

With the last of the primer in the gun i gave the underside of the spare wheel well area a light coat
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../cage009-2.jpg
looking good! Not too much paint mind though lol. You having a fuel cell, or keeping the original tank?
Weld in a chicken dash, and the mount the dails you need to that, no need for a heavey dash. Love it dude.
I'm keeping the original tank (i have an injection one) as i don't think a cell is worth it at the moment - the original tank is in a good position and doesn't weight a great deal.Quote:

Thanks mate you on msn? I have a few other questions lol
The missus has just arrived (driven down from the midlands) so I'll get castrated if I go on MSN. For future reference i'm dhdev@hotmail.com if you wanna add me, although I'm rarely on, I'll PM my mobile no. ;)
Nice one Boss i understand, my missus is the same lol
cage has cleaned up nice.
should look good once all finished off in the blue.
Does anyone know how much wider (track) a cavalier/calibra/astra/corsa is than a nova?
*simps sits in front of his pc holding his hands so far apart*
are you thinking from a spacers point of view? can you not place a cav shaft next to a nova one and measure the difference?
Yes i am thinking for a spacers point of view - and if i had a cav shaft i could lol hence i asked instead!Quote:

I know what you're trying to do. I've got a standard shaft but its at my workshop so no use to you whatsoever at this time! If no one comes back to you by the morning i'll measure it when I'm up there tomorrow.
I'm trying to avoid fitting wheel spacers or going for 8inch wide front wheels as it will probably track like funk all over the place!
Can you not just run corsa bottom arms, steering rack and modify the coilovers mounts?
I just want to know what i can gain track wise from the wider stuff off of any one of the above cars as just the wider corsa/cav/cali/astra stuff may not be enough...I will be running my own bottom arms a modded nova rack and a spacer of some sort if all works out
lol sorry that should be chicken bar...Quote:

Here is how.....
one full sill repair panel
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets001.jpg
Offered up, marked out and cut to size
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets002.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets003.jpg
Then i removed the old sill and cleaned up the ****e underneath
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets007.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets005.jpg
much better
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets008.jpg
And welded the new metal in - not the prettiest of jobs but no more rust never the less.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets009.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets011.jpg
I puddle welded were the original spot welds were
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets012.jpg
and did a small repair further up the arch
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...turrets013.jpg
I'm going to leave the 'metal' finish as i cba with filler its a track car so aesthetics arn't as important and the nosh will only add more weight. I haven't a clue what the repair will look like once the car is on its belly again (dog sh!t i imagin) as its hard to see with the car on its side, but its done now.
After a session with the grinder and a sanding disc i got some primer on the new metal - job done!

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...rrets004-1.jpg
