Buying a sequential was plan B, thankfully I managed to fix the gear linkage slop.
I had problem with the cable turret, there is the breather about 50mm deeper, so need a longer hose to avoid.
Anyone in this little trackday-related project I've been working on?
Borrowing Houses Vbox was great and I was loving the video overlay with speed, GPS track location. But I couldn't justify £310 for a proper vbox, despite them being a great piece of kit.
Here's my solution, Raspberry Pi Zero, 10z GPS hat (with accelerometer, gyposcope etc, but not using that atm), running some custom code I've written. It essentially dumps GPS location data every 0.1 seconds to an SD card file which I can use in Race Render to overlay speed, track location and G-force (calculated from GPS data).
Pi + GPS hat:

Broke out the breadboard to mock up the wiring; LEDs and operational buttons.

Once that was working it was all soldered to fit in the small case:

Finished product including external antenna (antenna plug on rear of device) and external power bank.

In short; You power it off the powerbank, press a button on the side to start/stop recording and various LEDs show power, GPS fix and recording status. It dumps raw NMEA GPS data to the SD card which Race Render supports for video overlaying.
Pure wizardry!

Turns out by simply pressing the GPS start button and GoPro record button at the same time, the data and video sync up perfectly. Lovely job.
Took it to Blyton Park 30/08/2020, great day, lots of fun. Had a few issues including a coilover platform winding itself down but all easily resolved.
Brakes weren't very strong, so put some new F4R pads in on the day. During bedding them in I got a bit excited:

Resulting in me smacking a cone, cracking my new front bumper and ripping a side skirt off going sideways over the gravel:

The marshall kindly delivered me my skirt back at lunch and refitted, nobody will ever know:

Here's the last session of the day, with new GPS data overlay:

Fantastic day and glad I was able to adjust your brake bias incorrectly, luckily found before you ventured on circuit, full rear bias wound have been fun. There certainly was some fast stuff there but the ikle Nova held it's own and fought off and beat some mighty machinery. I really enjoyed my spannering time for Team Shonky, go Team Shonky go. Might dig my Astra out next year as I need to find my mojo for track day driving as it's been lost in the post for a while now :(

Cadwell Park 2020-10-03 with Javelin Trackdays
Epic day out at Cadwell at the weekend. Forecast looked bad and I didn't have my usual buddies with me with gazebos so £22 later and I have a "tarp tent" from the local camping shop to attempt to keep dry.
Shonky car, shonky tent:

Few issues... Loading up on the trailer to take it and the clutch cable snapped where it goes through the bulkhead. Fair enough, it's been on years and was an original GM one. New aftermarket one fitted and I thought nothing of it.
Straight after lunch my clutch pedal hit the floor and didn't come back up. Oh great, new cables gone I thought. Turns out the clutch arm had snapped:

50/50 whether to pack it in, our rallying friend Paul suggested an epic bodge which got me through the whole afternoon. 7mm spanner, bent to meet the shape of the arm, 2 nuts+bolts and 2 jubilees later we have this:

Weather was horrendous all day, but I can thoroughly recommend Michelin P2L race wets, these things are phenominal. It was like doing a trackday in the dry there was so much grip.

Few videos inbound, and waiting on Javelin shots.
Loving the clutch arm repair!

Really can't be bothered to remove the box so the clutch arm has been strengthened in situ, yes I know it's not that pretty:

Also some winter upgrades for the car, Gaz Gold coilovers, 500lb front 450lb rear springs. They're lovely.

Front body is way shorter than the original one, which lends itself to more bump travel and less droop at my current ride height.
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2b/614.JPG
Nice work what you doing with the other coilovers?
2nd that Iain, I may be interested too.
Nice work fella.
Just bought myself a set as well. Gas Golds, although mine are the ultra lows.

Sweet, they're nice aren't they. I asked for ultra lows to get more travel at a lower ride height than the GHA. Although mine and Houses ride height is identical (measured from centre of wheel to top of wing) so either there's no such thing as ultra low or we both have them.
Definitely wouldn't want them any shorter than they currently are, as my previous GHA ride height has become my max height on the Golds!
What has confused me though is that mine are a gold colour...i'm going to check which I have now. Lol. Either way, they are going to be so much better than my 15 year+ Bilsteins.

Awesome stuff Iain.
Considering I had only received these a few months ago, I'd clean forgotten what they were. Clearly GHAs. And yes.... the rear beam is off. Lol https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...23bde9a0c0.jpg

Hi Iaiaiaian
i just popped in to have a look at what you've been up to, it'll take a while to catch up.
Hit Blyton Park on 12th June to test out this new suspension. Car performed great all day despite some serious hammering.
There was a slight mishap where I forgot to refit the oil cap and lost a litre of oil all over the engine bay, but a little mop up and top up saw that right.

Hitting them kerbs hard Iain. Looks like it is going well. [emoji106]

Cheers - think I hit them a little too hard cos my steering wheel is now off centre haha.
I did have another small mishap, smacked a cone, which ripped off my skirt fin and the rear wheel ate a hole in it as I merrily carried on my way. I'd laugh if it wasn't for the price of skirts nowa days!

Thats a big hole.

Make the otherside match, job done.
Does fit the lines quite nicely doesn't it.
Next level weight saving right there!
I like your tie down straps
Struggling with updates, but still been working on it. Quite a lot in fact.
The heater matrix blew, so I've had to replace that. Played with a few options, aftermarket matrix, changing the blower setup, but nothing stuck so no point in showing pics yet. Still using a cut down original blower housing with Nova 3 speed fan on the bottom of the matrix, connected to the mk2 dash screen vent.
I've had the dash out and tidied a tonne of wiring, integrating the aftermarket stuff with the OEM fusebox and relays. No pics as, well, its wiring, and boring.
Also done Snetterton on 20th Sept. Good day, wet and mixed conditions.
