Bit from yesterday
Just a quick update from what got done yesterday.
More shiny freshness!
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/3...f0597small.jpg
I got these wing's with the shell when i bought it.
The one's that were on the car were going rotten in places and in bad condition after the previous owner had used mold grips or something to pull them/roll arches for emergency clearance etc.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/3...f0600small.jpg
Nice aerial removal!
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...f0598small.jpg
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1...f0602small.jpg
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/3...f0601small.jpg
Passengers side, bad dents from said mold grips.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/8...f0603small.jpg
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/3...f0605small.jpg
Now you would think i would know better then to send the new wings off to spray without trial fitting them
I was rushed into getting them to the sprayers and didn't trial fit them (cant believe i did it) so yesterday i spent age's on the drives side trying to get it to fit, there GM one's but it just didn't line up right on my car, the fixing points do, but the part that meets the grill don't, it goes under the headlight!
But finally after a few hours i got it on to an OK state.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/8...f0606small.jpg
The passengers side was not so bad, only had to re-drill a hole in the front panel to attach it into as the hole was to high.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4...f0608small.jpg
Although the fit is a bit poor under the indicator
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4...f0609small.jpg
The panel gaps are no to bad.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7...f0610small.jpg
Did get some of the other side, but the SD card wouldn't load them..
Bonnet to wing gaps.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4...f0611small.jpg
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9...f0612small.jpg
Quite a bit of weight saving also, as the new one's have no stone guard on the back, the old one's are smothered in it!
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/8...f0615small.jpg
Thats all i got done yesterday as i didn't have much time on it, hope to get more done today "if" the rain holds off..
I feel like I'm getting behind, well I'm not as far along as i would like to be anyway, and the holidays 11 days away

Coming on well Scott. lol your wings fit better than mine dude!
-
As said, wings are a good fit.
-
Na there not as good as they look! lol
But there better then crap ones!
And i think the color match should be better if the rest of the car gets a clean/t-cut/wax
-
Not bad and still keeping busy.
Good lad..
-
I might have to go work in the rain soon as it's not stopping, and the car wont get done without me working on it lol
-
aint you got an awning for your folks caravan ?
Bung that up and get underneath it.
Shame you aint closer as my lockup is empty at the mo.
-
lol sod knows where the awning is mate, and my dad's one funny fecker, he'll moan at me if i did that, actually you've give me an idea!
My mate Mike's got a gazebo thingy...

Scott your inbox is full.
But to reply to your pm: I'll have a look in a minute for you, have you got a postcode? Dont suppose it will make a lot of difference but sometimes they need it. I think ebay couriers are about £30 for alloys.

Todays update
So this morning i got some scrutineer stickers in the post, so i fitted the one's for the battery cut off, and the horn etc.
And sanded down some of the inside ready for paint.
Also fitted my rocker/cam covers back on as a nice set of stainless bolts arrived in the post also.
Then i finished off something i stared yesterday.

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3...f0624small.jpg
Trial fit on engine, not screwed in as it's still soft etc.
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9...f0626small.jpg
Umm nice fresh paint, and shine bolts! :thumb:
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3...f0628small.jpg
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1...f0630small.jpg
Need opinions on something, do i
A) Leave it as it is?
B) Sand the letters back to alloy then lacquer?
C) Paint the letters Black??
More dabbling's tomorrow.

Deffo don't paint em black. It'll look sheet.
The one I did years ago, I used a belt file with a scotch belt & took the surface back, really neat but semi-specialist (air)tool.
Looking lush though. TB's in grey with yellow inlet manifold would look amazing
-
I know the tool your on about mate, i know a guy who has one! thaks for the idea..:thumb:
Sod taking the inlet manifold apart and doing that, well not before my holiday, nor PV, maybe for billing mate ;) I'm pressed for time as it is
Scott

I just noticed in that 2nd to last pic the cam covers like a mirror, you can see the inner wing! lol
-
:D Yeeees Scott, that is looking fresh! Love it, that yellow compliments the grey really well.
Car is looking sweet now mate, bet you can't wait to give it a good thrash!! lol
Good work Scott
-
Cheers dude, my theme was always Black/yellow/orange
But it changed as over time i got sick of sing black rocker covers lol
-
Just caught up on the last few updates, nice progress! It's looking pretty cool now, are you using bonnet pins on the bumpers or what?
-
Yes my friend
EDIT: Hang on iain, you saying it was not cool before??
lol
-
I reckon black lettering against the yellow would look really cool.
-
looks good mate pretty cool i do like the couler!!
-
Todays little update!
-
shame about the run looks good though, it does happen with some paint, can get a bad batch or it was a little moist when spraying, or maybe a bit thick or to soon between coats! but looking goooood!
-
No picture update, but i got a coat of lacquer on the exhaust tunnel, looks fine now.
I've realised i wont have enough time to get the rear bench painted before i go on holiday, and not enough time when i get back before PV (leave next Monday, back 25th) and Ive used all the paint up,so would need to order more.
Might have enough time to get the car back together and in for mot this week if i can get it insured ASAP!
So it's all go go, what with a holiday round the corner, 10 scuttle covers to be made and posted, and a car to finish in a week! lol
Scott
-
Looks nice. What suspension is on it?
Rear could go lower....
-
Avo's rear Leda's front mate, it could but then it would be a Pansy show car! lol
-
That looks really nice Scott, well done for finallly almost getting there with it.
I like.
-
Cheers dude, yeah not far off, just needs more attention after PV etc.
Scott
-
Good stuff Scott, hope to see it at PV.
Are you using the standard Avo rear springs? How far wound down are they???
Want to get an idea of how mine will sit as my adjusters have seized, so where it sits will be where it stays lol
-
liking the build ,i remember ur last one wen u turned it into an xe.
liked the suttle engine mods u done.
u got much more to do till this ones finished??
check my build,
gearheads convertable nova
-
Slight update
Ad, yes standard AVO springs mate, and they are half way, hope that helps.
Yesterday i got round to sorting my windscreen washer problem out, the jets were blocked (so i thought) but then i think it might have been also one of the pipes, so anyway i found a lorry blade washer in the garage (think it's something i got from Baxter years ago?)
So i stuck it on, and it works good enough!
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3765/dscf0669small.jpg
Also when i was round my mate mikes at the weekend i realised he had just what i was looking for, the part that separates the air under the dash, so i had that, then couldn't be bothered to take dash apart to fit it, so i cut it in half lol I also made a blank for the center vents, then used gaffer tape to fix it all back together (OK not the best way,but meh!)
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5909/dscf0660small.jpg
I then realised why the "new" heater blower i had was not working, the fuse had gone  this was because the old motor had seized and blown the fuse, so i replaced the fuse and the new motor worked.
old motor
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/6830/dscf0662small.jpg
I then thought to stop the rain getting back into it and doing the same i would make a cover for it. I drilled a small hole to let water out in the bottom corner.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/9494/dscf0666small.jpg
Back onto the car and working.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1898/dscf0668small.jpg
Might get some better work done tomorrow, but then Ive got these scuttle covers to make...
Scott
-
Liking the heater cover! Might have to half inch that one!
Keep up the progress!
-
OMG cant belive the DVLA, Ive just found out my logbook, i sent it off age's ago to get amended to show the car as a 1998cc and the engine number change/vehicle color etc... nothings been altered, so just spoke to them and if i get my car insured MOT'd i can then go to a local office and they will tax it,and send the log back to head office for the re-amendments!
What a **** about, Ive got to do this after my holiday in the one week before PV and finish the car off! lol
EDIT: It's now insured, went through Sky £570 Full comp!
-
-
fingers crossed!
Looks good dude.
-
Looking real smart now that is mate!!
-
-
Good lad Scott, fingers crossed.
-
Cheers all, I'm just ****ting my self, as the mot'er has said he's going to have some issues trying to pass the exhaust system, everything els he said is very high standard and all OK.
Scott
-
Looks great!!
I just got my log book back from dvla saying I need an inspection document in order to change the cc's.. But I've got a mot and insurance on it. Guess I will try get some tax on it then try again...
-
Thats right, they wont let you change it over like you use to, just sending the form out etc, they now need you to provide evidence you have had it inspected by some one first etc, as i have to do this, then take my log book to my local DVLA tax office to complete the form with cc's and color change before they will hand over a tax disk, total ballach as I'm rushing to get it all sorted for PV.
