Seen Andy's red Nova with the later Mk1/Mk2 boot and I thought it would look nicer and suit the GTE rear a bit more (That's if I can source a GTE rear bumper) lol
Very true, should have a fair bit racket coming out the scoop from the 40's :thumb:Quote:

Your one of the minority then :thumb:
Loving that bonnet mate, keep it up.
Thinking about putting a vent or two on mine.
If I could be picky I'd have had GTE vents but this came up and Kev was uber decent and brought it to my house for me I couldn't say no
I had something he wanted...He had something I wanted - A nice, no money exhanged deal :thumb:
Glad you approve fella - Our Nova's...Very very 90's
Hmm, vent overload! Would look better with either or imo. Not bad for swaps tho.
I think it'll look quite good when it's painted and fitted :)
Yeah 90s inspired is the way to go.
Your new bonnet reminds me of this

Also i noticed a few pages back, you said you were going to paint your head and cam silver, dont do it.
I did mine in silver then decided to clean to bare metal them and they look much better, you might of saw the pic in my thread.
Probably will clean the head etc as they are and see how it looks :)
Less to paint the better
Get head up to my work get it skimmed cheaply and if need be i can get it sandblasted and painted to :thumb:Quote:

Just clean it up good and give it a bit of paint. Shouldn't need more then that tbh.
I'll clean it up sometime during the week and see how it looks :) Just wanting a nice clean looking engine
Definately not going 'bling' or anything lol
Cheers for all the comments so far
Forget blingness etc Having something clean and smart does the trick most of the time.
Definately going to be clean and should be nice to look at as well
Just got to focus on the Mk2 Nova for a wee while then start back up with this one
Had a wee hour out in the garage the night cleaning and making a start to painting the front of the 1400 SR engine
I've never done this before in my life (Pictures might show that lol) But I'm learning as I go and it'll be mint to say 'I done that...'
I'm just going for a clean/useable look not going 100% pure show car and chrome as it WILL be driven and not laid up all year
So here's what I started with, a fairly clean 1400 SR complete engine:

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203031.jpg
A screw driver to get the s*it out of the nooks n crannies, some WD40 to help clean it a wee bit and some wire brushes to rough up and clean the surface (Not sure if that's the right approach but it's worked/working for me atm) Dried all the engine off with some dusters etc and got it ready for the 1st coat of paint (Red Smoothrite)

Arty shot for the craic lol
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203036.jpg
I'll probably be out tomorrow to do some more cleaning and painting on it -
Just letting the paint dry off tonight and I'll inspect it in the morning
Comments/suggestions welcome
Cheers, Vaughan
Went down this morning for a couple of hours to do a wee bit of work on the Mk1 Nova
Dug out the dash and all the bits and fitted them back together - I can see why people change Mk1 dashes to the Mk2 one lol - I've mis-placed a passenger side heater blank but I'll find that nearer the time of the interior going in:

The clocks:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203129.jpg
The rear springs I plan to use - They say -50mm but looking at them I don't think so...
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203130.jpg
Had a wee shot at fitting the loom back up as it had been removed before I got the car - Looked a night mare but seemed easy enough once you know where everything goes. Just need to tidy it up and connect everything together when it starts to go back together - Everything is pretty much in place now though so I'm happy about that:

Dug the Sport interior out of the cupboard so I could make a start in cleaning it, thought I'd be as well starting to clean it whilst I have the time to do so before the project starts getting hectic lol So here goes; Rear seats all hoovered and the vinyl bits dressed:

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203134.jpg
Front seats are slightly more faded looking but their 25 years old and have been used a lot since they came from a Sport lol I reckon they'll need Vax'd

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203136.jpg
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203137.jpg
Front doorcards - Dressed with this Turtle Wax cockpit shine stuff - Didn't need much as they came from a low mileage Nova Swing:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203138.jpg
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...a/SV203139.jpg
Rear quarter cards are still down with the shell as well as the boot plastics and shelf supports - I'll bring them home tomorrow and clean them up as well as the dash etc so it's all clean ready for the re-fit
Cheers, Vaughan
Coming along well Vaughan. Engine is looking better. Looks like we had the same dash (mine being black now)
Interior looks clean and a decent valet should make it mint.
Those springs look like they'll lower 50mm. These are mine and they are 30mm - 35mm

Cheers mate - Once it's painted (God knows when that'll be, everything should just piece together as everything is pretty much there for it)
I sat they springs next to some -60mm ones and they were miles shorter...Got me wondering if they are 80's or 90's ?
only way to see for sure is to get them on the car. What brand springs are they?
No idea mate, they came with the purple GTE track car of my mates and because there really small (low looking) I'm going to try them on the Mk1 to see what there really like :)
So it'll be a surpirse then. Coolio.
If there too low they'll be sold on or my mate can take them back - Just want a slight bit of the tyre tucked up into the arch at the rear and the front to sit about on line with the wing :thumb:
Yeah I know what look you want. Bit Like Mike B GTE's old red Nova. Will be going for that look when I get a bigger quick car (like a VXR8 lol) and the Nova become a weekend toy.
Interior bits look in good enough condition, at least your getting some work done even if its small boring jobs like cleaning lol
Aye the interior isn't too bad nick - Bits of wear on the bolsters, some fag burns but for the age it's pretty sound looking! Might as well get the cleaning done and by with so it's done before everything gets fitted up :)
looking good mate least your getting some progress done interior looking sweet
Cheers mate - Small progress is better than none lol
You don't like the mk1 dash then ? lol
the original and proper dash for a nova, if installed right it will not rattle like alot of people think.
Mount it on rubber O rings on the bulkhead and sound deaden it with sone Dynamat of suchlike and it will be fine.
I like the Mk1 dash mate, I think it's cool but when putting it together it feels so flimsy compared to a Mk2 dash lol
It's definately staying so all the interior looks complete and period :)
My dash is dead quiet. Put some thin foam around certain area like aroudn glove box. And made sure it's all tight. No rattles at all.Quote:

Quick question - What comes 1st...? Dash or windscreen OR Windscreen then dash ?
Cheers
Way too many people are too quick to say the mk1 dash is crap.
Its what a Nova originally came with, i personally hate the mk2 dash.
I'd say fit windscreen first then dash. Bit easier.
Either or but I would probably put the windscreen in first.
I'll need to source a windscreen for it then :)
I'd fit the windscrean first, easier way round of doing it imoQuote:
