:O ive never thought about relocating the washer bottle, do you think i could put mine in the boot? lol
nice work btw :)
you can put the washer bottle where ever you want.
Good to see some updates matey :thumb:
the clutch cable will sit like that after its bent
Yeah I guess it can go anywhere, figured this would be the best place as it's low down and near where it needs to be - couldn't find anywhere else in the bay for it!
Were did you get the theaded inserts for the seat bars?
McGill motorsport, they've got a website and sell a lot of stuff on eBay.
ditch the dash panel
What you mean the dash panel?
i presume he means the inner skin of the the dash - its not needed :)
Ah I did look at how that would be removed at the time actually, but figured it'd do some good as it kind of makes a box section across the car?
I say keep it, as for the washer bottle, i think where you have it's fine mate, but you might want to look into a screw on lid or something, as any passenger might flip it open when getting in/out and you would be spilling it everywhere once your driving with it that low?Quote:

No dash bar I'm afraid, will keep it.
Today's progress.
Mocked up drivers seat rails:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/339.JPG
Drilled out and inserts slotted in:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/340.JPG
Welded up, grinded flat, and tacked in to place
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/341.JPG
Something I learnt when doing the passenger side, it's best off welding the bar to the spreader plate underneath first as you can't get to it when it's welded in:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/342.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/343.JPG
And spreaders welded to the car:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/345.JPG
While admiring how well my cage fits the car, I thought I'd tag it to the A pillars. It's already tagged above the windscreen and above both doors in the same way:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/346.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/347.JPG
And since the dash strengthening isn't coming out, I made sure it wasn't going anywhere:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/348.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/349.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/350.JPG
Seats in:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/352.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/353.JPG
Turns out the driver's side has 2cm or so less space than the passengers side, so the seat only just fitted. Means they look wonky when you look at them straight on too (drivers is almost touching the window and the passengers is nowhere near lol) but oh well.
Seats look well in there :)
They take up the entire interior lol At least I got them in after the worry they wouldn't fit.
looking good mate :thumb:
keep the updates coming
whoa! :-o
Nice welding.

Your welding turns me on LOL
Not really but its damn good work dude:thumb:
any chance of some welding lessons please
It's the 3mm plate, really easy to get a good weld on! lol Much easier to weld the 3mm stuff with 0.8mm wire too - I struggled loads with it burning back and sticking to the tip when using 0.6mm wire. Today I swapped to 0.8mm welding wire and used anti-spatter 'Tip-dip' and had no problems at all so could get a nice run.
Yeah Safety Devices 6pt, welded in.
Carried on with the rear quarters today.
Trimmed the quarter panel back so if I make a right mess of it I can get a new quarter and start again lol

Pillars and sill trimmed to size:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/355.JPG
Rough fit to check panel gaps:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/356.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/357.JPG
One thing I've noticed is when I line the B and C pillar grooves up nicely there'll be a step on the C pillar, so I guess I'll have to overcome that with some bodyfiller. Otherwise it's a good fit :(
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/358.JPG
some really good progress man. good to see you getting stuck in and doing welding and bodywork yourself
Rubbish update but the weather hasn't been too kind.
Built the back end up to check nothing is going to be majorly out of place, all seems okay:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/359.JPG
Drilled 5mm holes around the edges of the panel to puddle weld it in to place similar to standard:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/360.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/361.JPG
Then the weather ruined my fun so I went in the garage and rebuilt my RJ gear linkage. Wanted to move the bottom RJ placement to avoid the problems of it loosening off I've had in the past, so painted it up nice etc while I was there:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/362.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/363.JPG
Nylon linkage bushes help reduce play quite a lot:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/364.JPG
Painted, built up (needs a few bolts cutting down/replacing), with the plastic bit flipped round for F20:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/365.JPG
Make me a linkage :p
lol i need to do one as well!
I was tempted to make a new one this afternoon actually but I don't have a spare std linkage. Make your own, it's dead easy!
Panel work looks good.
Thought I'd delock my doors "properly" with a metal plate, instead of the chemical metal I'd used before. So welded in two circles:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/366.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/367.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/368.JPG
Rear quarter tacked in to place:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/369.JPG
This bit lined up quite badly as pictured:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/370.JPG
But cutting slots in it like this meant it could be bent in to shape:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/371.JPG
Puddle welded to window and door shut:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/372.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/373.JPG
Pillars completed:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/374.JPG
Inner arch tacked to the outer wing. Did this by sitting and blindly welding inside the arch, just tacked in a few places around the edge:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/375.JPG
Hooray:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/376.JPG
3 tonnes of filler:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/377.JPG
And some on the roof where it was dented (during fitting the cage I think):
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/378.JPG
Taking shape:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/379.JPG
Got bored of sanding filler so did some seam sealering around the front end:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/380.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/381.JPG

Hmm, removable slam panel or not?
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/383.JPG
good thread this mate reminds me of my first nova.:thumb:
Can't beleive how much this has progressed fella, 1/4 panel fitment looks top! Full credit to you sir!
Dont remove the crossmember, the front end will fall on the floor
The slam panel however you could remove.... ;) :p lol lol
Top work Iain, really is looking solid and spot on now.
lol at crossmember, But cut the centre post bit out and make the upper bit out of a straight L shape bit (IF you get me), could save another couple of grams lol
I have to agree im amazed at this thread too lol
Crossmember lol Edited so your posts make no sense now. It had been a long day of sanding filler so my brain was dead.
Yeah alloy crossmember could save weight, will have to do it!
Leave the slam alone, no need to remove it.
Fantastic work on ther welding and fitting the quarter. Really well done.
Id make it removeable, it makes things so much easier (engine work wise) with the slam panel out the way.
Just make sure you make a good job of it if you do it.... :)
