went down the garage when i got home from work, set about welding the turrets. sure the neighbours down there will appreciate gennys rumble, was only 6 oclock, but as its dark its like you need to be quiet....

now, id like to blend that seam in with the inner wing, will normal body filler be ok or should i use some bumper/flex filler?

Use normal bodyfiller, If you can get it use black flexi fiber glass.
who makes that benn?
Smc, yellow tin, i use that's over all welds for smoothing...

small update. had the day off today so started work on the nova at half 8 this morn. got a couple things done, hoovered it all off and then removed the steering column and the pedal assembly. didnt take pics as its fairly boring.
left my garages at 10 so i could go collect my new n/s wing from offplot (chris). met him in newtown (mid wales) where he works as its closer to me than where he lives. had a chat with him for a bit then paid him for my nice new genuine early mk1 wing.:d.
on the way back through the country life i stopped off and took some pics of my vec, nothing special but gave me something else to do. here they are.

after this i did some small jobs, removed my rear quarter windows and the tailgate. also removed any other small bits of trim that needed to come out.

jobs for tomorrow are to take the windsreen out, the doors hopefully and then get it up as high as i can on axle stands to strip off all the underseal to re-do it.
after alot of thought on what to use i will be using comma underseal, dries rubbery and isnt tacky/tarry. so this then will be painted on with blue hammerite. thats the plan anyway.

at the top of the strip is stone chip and at the bottom is the comma stuff. cant really make it out but you get the idea.

OMG that Vec has no wheels!!!!! lol
have started to strip the car of all underseal now, have so far only done the o/s arch. this has taken me a fair time for stripping off the old underseal, my genny is having problems again but think im on the right lines of fixing it.
i took it all down to bare metal
then gave it a dust coating of etch primer as i heard this is vital for it to etch properly into the metal. then another coat on top of that.

once this had dried i seam sealered all the seams

after this had dried i gave it a two coats of comma underseal, once its dried it goes a cool matt black colour:)

then proceeded with two coats of blue hammerite.

atleast thats one down, got my old bumper down from the rafters to inspect it. like many old gte bumpers it dips in on the right hand side if you can see it, ive heard that if you heat it up/put it in a hot bath it will go back to the original shape. anyone know if this is true? can imagine it wont do it with the filler on it so will have to dig it out.

Etch primer promotes the paint to strip better to bare metal, if your under sealing its not really needed.
WHAT etch is always a good idea on a nova its used on bare metal as it ETCH'S in to it and sticks better than say high build primer. The acid forces the zinc down into the top couple of molecules of the steel and helps stop rust from getting any worse.Quote:
