my new car its retro!
-
-
-
its a 34,000 mile timewarp old boy special 1600 L mk 1 cav! needs alot of panels i.e boot floor, inner arch, chassis leg. but its ok otherwise. brakes have been rebuilt, and it runs.
-
looks extreamly clean for its age! keep us updated :thumb:
cant be many of these left now surely
-
Time warp.... beautiful mate. Does it smell old inside? :P
-
bit rare
where'd you find it
your not to far from me
lee
-
Retro indeed. Minimal miles on it aswell! Whats your plans for it?
-
-
about 700ish left at last count. plans involve a saab turbo lump, manta 1800 box and some willwoods all round. and 300 bhp!
-
yes it smells old ha ha! period cassette and speakers and ive been to st ives sticker and national recovery etc
-
Hope you're keeping the exterior stock! It rocks!
-
deffo stock, any ideas what size willwoods will go under the standard 13's?
-
Hmm probably best giving rally design a bell for brakes. Are you sure you wanna keep stock rims with 300 bhp lol.
-
theres 4 pot brakes that mini's use that fit under there 12" rims :)
-
-
yeah i do, just to scare kids in saxo's, ha ha! baxter iirc they are metro turbo calipers. i dont think i want pikey rover bits any where near it ha ha! the kids i teach think "its da bomb fella!" and they're 16!
-
So whilst youre turbo`ing this with a crossbreed of saab (bab as we call em) whats going on with BFK, she was looking so sorry for herself last time i saw her!!!
-
Pfft, turbo. That needs a V8!
-
sd1 engine pimped up lol
look nice with a charger sticking out the bonnet lol
-
rover? err no. i'd rather buy a let or burn my money than that! (yes i hate let's)
-
bfk is open to offers spud, you fancy it?
-
-
nope that engine design is older than the cav! too heavy aswell. saab is the future! lets and xe's are the past!
-
LS1, its the 5.7 v8 from the monaro lol
-
i was looking into a Saab 2.3 turbo engine for my loon 207bhp for around £200, and bolts using nova conversion mounts lol, but the main problem is the loom, there no separate engine/car loom its all built into one :(
-
Lovely MK1 Cav... keep us posted with your plans.
-
actually it does separate you need to trace it up the column. wirings easy just a perm live switched and a few earts. ls1 is directly related to the small block chevy as found in camaros chevy bel airs etc. good motor but quite heavy

Diamond in the dirt:eek: :thumb:
-
right todays progress, the boys made some new panels for the rotten bits, and prepped them ready to weld em up, pics below.
p.s can a mod move this thread to projects please! ta:thumb:
-
Love it! My dad had a green 4dr many years back except it was badged as a manta.
Nearly bought one myself a while back. Not to sure about 300bhp and an 1800 back axle though!?
-
This is a belter :thumb:
What colour do you intend on spraying it? A nice rustic orange or red maybe :)
-
-
staying the standard colour. i meant the box not the axle. the manta boys run em with lets as its a getrag box. the back axle may get a quaife atb lsd, not sure tho. steve you sure it wasnt an ascona? the opel version?
-
quality loving the mk1 cav...
-
Nope, definetily a 4dr manta, ive got some old photos I want to scan, it had the manta front grille as well.
Wouldnt have thought the gearbox could cope with that power but thats all good then. :thumb:
-
I was getting excited til it turned out to be a Cav. I used to have an Ascona B which is the same but with a different front.

As for a 4dr Manta, no such thing ever made I'm afraid. The mk1 Cav has the same front as the Mantas though which is where the confusion came from, with people swapping the nose cones over.
Repair Panels for these are easily gotten, in fact theres a lot similar underneith to the Mantas. Look on www.totalopel.com to be pointed in the right direction...
It would look yummy in standard form with some Revo RFX's.
-
nice ascona there dod. my dad had a white one with a 2.4 frontera engine in it, was really good. got cracked on again, no pics till tomorrow tho as phone went on strike! cut out boot floor, removed front subframe to weld the chassis leg. was worse than it first looked, gone right upto the bit where it goes to the front of the car i.e top of the s part, and stripped the rocker cover for polishing. oh and bought some sheet steel, handy as the merchants is only next door! 13 quid 7x5 ft 0.5 thick! was well impressed! daft q but has anyone got a 2.4 lump?
-
retro ain the wourd last time i saw one of those was in the back of an old classic car mag
-
Nice Cavalier!! They are about the only car I know that likes to rust more than a Nova though!!!!!!!
I have an Ascona B, but it's being kept standard!!!
