speakers

i currently have a pioneer deh 415 cd player it is 4x14w

i connected 2x150w 6"speakers to it and 2x210w 6x9's to it and if i turn it over a certain volume it just goes crackly?

can anyone tell me why this would be?
i thought it would just happen if the headunit was givin out too much power to the speakers.
also could i connect an amplifier up to this headunit?

If your HU has RCA outputs on then you can connect an amp, check on the back of it for two sockets, one red/one white.
As for your speakers then it sounds like the HU is feeding too much power and distorting the sound, do you know the RMS power of your speakers, your powers look like they are in peak watts. But if your HU is 4x14w then they seem to be under-powered, and so the signal doesn't have enough power to drive the speakers. Try just using one set of speakers and see if it does it then.

this might sound like a silly question but.have u connected the wires upthe right way i.e. + 2+ and - 2 -???

only other thing i can think of is have u got the bass and treble turned up full on ur hu? if u have this will distort the sound from ur speakers

Start with the bass and treble all the way down, then turn them both up just until the sound starts to distort, half way in between these points sound be a good overall setting.

agree with the above. try adjusting the bass and treble on the hu. also turn off the supa bass boost or whatever they are called these days

Dude that head unit couldant power all them speakers! its like having a hifi with 100 watts speakers and getting an amp thats 50 watts ? the amp needs to be just over 100 watts to power the speakers.
If you have rca leads on your cd player then you can connect an amp, but the head unit is trying to power the speakers and running out of steam thats why the speakers are crackling.

I have a cavlalier and i had a crappy little radio cassete and when i turned the volume up they would crackle like mad, i went to the car audio shop and they said that my head unit didant have the power.
So i went out and bought a jvc 4 times 50 watts and wacked up the power and then my speakers got the power they needed and my music sounded a lot better.
And also the rms power on you head unit wont be 14 watts, the 14 watts is when the unit distorts so a safe power on your system will be between 5-10 watts.
