Got a new fuel tank to go on the Cav t'other day. Is it worth giving it a coat of hammerite to protect the metal or shall I just fit it unpainted?

I have actually spoken to someone that went and looked at a brand new Vauxhall in the 90's and questioned the unpainted tanks, dealer said the modern technology in steels meant they could last x times longer completely unprotected. This is probably why Novas don't rust :)
... I'd paint it lol
Most definately paint it.Primer with red oxide hammerite, then hammerite smooth whatever colour.
Or for ultimate scene look, put it in the sea for a week then paint with brine water lol
it wouldn't hurt, any protections got to be better than none
Definitely paint it, for the minimal effort it takes why risk having a new tank get all rusty.
put paint stripper on it, water and salt, and fit it, would look factor fit then lol
And be sure to jump on it too.
It'll rust from the inside out anyway. But i'd still stick a quick splash of paint to protect the outside.
How old is the one on there? 18 odd years? Can you see you keeping it another 18 years? lol Just bung it on :)
