*HOW TO* plastic welding/repair

this is how i repair plastic bumpers in work.
in this case it was a repair to a ford focus rear bumper that someone had repaired and it failed.

they used a piece of metal and rivets and filled the outside and fibre glassed the inside. this usually doesnt work.
i use this stuff.

you buy it as a kit for about £150. or just the tubes of replast for about £17.50.

1. firstly remove all old filler and fiber glass. then 80 grit inside and outside. and trim the edges with a stanley knife.

ok so after the old crap is removed and the surface has been preped its worth time.
1.firstly degrease inside and out then use masking tape to hold bumper in the correct shape.
2. use the mesh you get in the kit on the inside.

then use the glue inside spread it all over the mesh. then fill the cracks on the outside

allow the glue to set about 1hour then sand the outside with 80grit till its flush with the bumper. then 80 grit the area that your going to fill.

ok so now your on to filler.
1.degrease area ready for filler
2.on plastic bumpers i use lightweight filler thats also flex-able

That it awesome work, my GSi bumper could do with some of that magic right there as it has a crack on the underside, its hidden from view thankfully as someone just screwed some wood to hold it in place but I may as well sort it.

just get a tube of the glue. You can get quite a few jobs out of one.

my dad uses this glue stuff at his work he had to buy a we gun thing to go with it to mate....

btw he works in a caravan workshop doing servicing and repairs lol
