Siezed Drum

Car has been stood for about half a year (with the handbrake off)

However, the Drivers rear drum has siezed... it usually does this.

I've tried copious amounts of Forwards, Backwards, Forwards, Backwards to try get it to release but the ground was very wet a slippery so i couldn't get much before the wheel started skidding.

I have also misplaced my locking wheel nut key, and i have Cav GSi rims, so at this second taking the drum apart or even smacking it with a hammer is not so easily done.

Anyone got any smart ideas before i have to start hacking my wheel nuts off ?

When you mentioned Cav GSi wheels & lost locking wheel nut key, my mind went blank.

Is the car drivable? Just drive it down the road and back (I know its dodgy and dont do it speed eather) I drove my old nova with a seized caliper as i was in the middle of no where.

A last resort IMO as this will invariably flat spot your tyre so you'll end up with a useless tyre on a wheel you cant get off.

Get a nice big hammer, and a nice bit of cloth to protect the wheel, and beat the living crap out of it.

Used to get this all the time at my old job with the transit drums binding. If you can, get at the back of the drum with a tapping device. Used to free up the transit brakes no problem

I dont know if you would want to try this, but when this happned to me. i got some rope and tied it round a spoke of the wheel ( or hole in your cass ) And jacked it up and kept pulling. Worked after about a hour tho with a few rest's

ensure its not the handbrake cable thats seized in the axle 'quadrant' check this by making sure the cable is slack between the drum and the quadrant runner. if its not then exercise it back and forward until it is.

failing that, try and get a long bar such as a 1ft 1/2" extension onto the drum through the spoke and hammering a good few times around the drum.

if you still cant get it off, il suggest some other ideas later.

^^^^^^^^^as above with the handbrake cable slides in the axle. same as mine was.

Smack the rear drum using a the GM jack ;) ALWAYS seems to free up GM drums?

hammer a socket over the locking wheel nut. them things are a pain in the erse anyhow!!
