Right guys im after an exhaust for my mk1 nova 1.2 which is the best for performance?

I have heard the GTE exhaust is a good addition and it bolts straight on i have heard is this just the GTE or will the GSI fit??

Wrong forum

But yeah, a Standard GTE system is a lot bigger than the 1.2 item and so will help flow a bit. Your cheapest option which is still a pretty good system, is an Ashley Mild steel item.

How much difference do backboxes make??

Only a bit. The added noise is more of a placebo in terms of power gains tbh.

Theres nothing worse than a loud, under-powered car so choose carefully or even opt for a tail pipe trim welded on your box. Will avoid upping your insurance/legal issues.

The fannymould/downpipe is the worst bit. The 1.3SR's use the same silencers and make a fair bit more power. I'll be fitting the manifold, downpipe and the pipe that joins the downpipe to the first silencer from a 1.3 to my 1.2, as soon as my back gets a bit better.

If you go for a second hand item, get everything including the manifold to avoid such issuse.

For your first system, a little noise is ideally what you want but as CG said, you dont want to over do it. So a GTE System is ideal.

Nah i really dont want a stupidly loud exhaust i want a shuttle 1 maybe even a raspy 1 if you get what i mean will a gsi exhaust fit the same as the GTE?

YEah apart from the tail pipe exit angle. If you fit a GTE Box to a Mk2 bumer, you have to make a little cut out to fit it.

If you fit a Mk2 box to a GTE bumper, you have to make a little cut out to fit it.
:p On a Mk2 the tailpipe sits down below the bumper, where as on the Mk1 there is a small cutout on the rear valance. Mk2 tailpipes are straight, where as Mk1s come out on the squiff, so fitting a Mk2 to a Mk1 requires the hole in the valance elongating. Vice versa doesn't need any chopping though.

You sure? I've seen a few Mk1 Rally cars fitted with mk2 Bumpers and the tail pipe cut into the bumper.

Would be suprised if the GTE system will bolt onto the 1.2 without modification.

I've just been through a bit of pain trying to fit a GTE system to an SR. The GTE system comes up about 3 inches short and on the wrong angle so if the 1.2 downpipe is similar to the SR you'll have tha same trouble.

To make an improvement to a 1.2 nova, go & get the 1.3 manifold & downpipe, the system is the same.

I have a mk1 with a gte engine, manifold & system & the std 1.0 nova backbox .
The gte system & the 1.0/1.2/1.3/1.4 systems are the same pipe diameter. the std gte backbox is identical to the std one apart from a shiny tailpipe that fouled the bumper.
