Redtops don't fit in easily, you can pick up a z20let for around the 2k mark maybe a bit cheaper, saw quite a few z20 let corsa c's at pv so cant be that hard to do.
Or you could get a 1.8 Sri 16v Engine, box and loom for around £500, which come 125bhp standard, very easily tuneable engine. My friend has one with 170bhp tuned and modified by Regal, and what a differance it made!

Pick an ignition live to run the coil from, then fit a 1.2 carb unit seeing as most people give them away :).
Got a redtop already still the sri i something to consider
Xe is not that hard iirc, needs converting to hydraulic clutch, and a special o/s mount making.
just found this now my mind is made up

I am able to modify your 1.2 loom and map your 1.2 ecu to run the Z20LET.. means everything in the car will still work exactly as it did before.
If you run a C20LET or C20XE you'll loose your power steering, abs, speedo etc. etc. The conversion is a total waste of time IMHO..
z20lets are big bucks at the minute and its cash i just cant spare, i can get a c20 for half the price ive seen z20s for
if the z20s were cheaper id go for it,

Z20's arent too expensive IMO. Typically far lower mileage than an old C20LET. I've seen them go on the bay for less than a grand.
every one ive found is £2500 with the box and loom
a grand i could cope with, the plus side with the z20 is tey can be fitted using all genuine vaux parts or so ive heard
corsa vxr lump looks as if it would go straight in as well

Looks! Looks can be deceptive.....
1.8 smallblock sound s like the best plan tbh. With a few mods to the inlet, it should fly.

I'd love to see that lol
Didnt know the 1.2 PCM had a boost controller in there etc
1.2 sxi has similar wiring to vxr astras ive had a look on corsa-c and as far as i can see you only need the ecu and transponder and a bit of fiddling to get them running and keep all the vauxhall tech 2 stuff in there
ive seen that before about the 1.2 ecu being used on zlets - might of been in TV
I'd love to see that lol

It is the same part number though, I've been speaking to a guy who's done it this way, he had to add some additional wiring, though he didn't say what for - I guess its for the turbo related items.
I guess it's cheaper for VXto specify one ECU and just map and mod it per use rather than the old days of about 50 different ECU designs lol
