I need a new air filter for my 1.2 (1992, carb.), is it worth buying K&N filter or should I just replace it with a standard one?
Is the K&N filter for the 1.2 a direct replacement for the circular one that is there at the moment or do you have to make modifications?

Sos if I sound thick

yes u can replace it directly, but in winter ur carb may ice up, so may want to put standard one on, i will have a k&n for 1.2 carb for sale in a few weeks if ur interested, neway 1992 carb cant be true, last 1.2 carb was very early mk2's and they are rare! 1992 would be 1.2i :)

I've got a 1.2 mk2 - reg nov 91 - there arent many (1.2 merit) - the spi's were badged merit +.

Get one - well wicked sound - a little more bhp (not much but better than nothing) - you may need to reset idle/mix but I found I'm getting better response and more mph!

:D

sits on nicely too - looks better than the ruddy dust bin lid!

As for icing over - this is true but just simply run some of the metal bendy heater manifold hose from the manifold over the rocker to the from of the K&N and the heat will keep it ok. You can buy heater kits.

You may need to slit a little hole in the above hose so air can be pushed along but other than that it should work fine.
Or
You can put er old bin lid back on...

The car that I have got is Nova Flair 1.2 (definately non injected) j-reg (1992) with a 5 speed gear box. It came with an almost identical interior to an SRI (red/grey). It has only done 41,000 genuine miles, has anyone got a lower mileaged nova than this?

Cheers for your help neway.

u sure its not injected?

i thaught mine wasnt - turns out its SPI

if the airbox has 3 bolts then its carb

2 bolts and its SPi

1992 means k plate right?

and k means it needs a cat

and im pretty sure u cant run a cat without injection cos it needs to be able to actively control the mixture and sh1te

which would mean it SHOULD be injection

check it out

dont wanna waste your ?? man

My car (Nova Flair) was made early '92 and it didn't change to K reg until a little bit later on in the year. The airbox has three bolts on the top of it so it must be a non injected motor. However it is weird coz it has a 5 speed gear box like the 1.2I, so I think it is a bit of a rare model.

well 2 points to check

look for the mechanical fuel pump on the timing belt end of the cam if its there its a carbed engine for sure

but it might not be the original engine

look under the glove box for the ECU if its there then its been converted at some point

if it was built after 1/2/92 then it definetly started life as an SPi engine

if its on carbs without the mechanical fuel pump then its definetly been converted - again look for the ECU if its there which it should be it WAS an injection and has been converted

anyway - the k&n is a direct replacement filter but i would suggest either keeping the original airbox around for cold weather OR running some kinda duct from the hot air bit on the exhaust manifold to the front of the k&n to stop the carb icing

i have a 1.2 merit, mk2, J reg (1991) running a peco zorst (which im thinkin of changing soon) not sure about the zorst, while im here mite aswel ask. i bought it coz it was cheap and im a student therefore poor and stingy, but now think it actually sounds cheap. sounded wicked when i first had it coz anythins better than standard, but i want a louder grunt now, any recommendations without goin stupid on price?? back to the topic tho of filters, im thinkin of buyin a K&N, anyone got one for sale? iv def got a carb, so if anyone has a K&N for mk2 carb 1.2 would be nice! do they really make a lorra difference to the sound then?

cheers

I've got a 1.2i (K) with a Green Air filter on, I was quite suprised how much of a difference it made in the way of noise it also made it pickup a bit better. Good buy for ?60!!!
I am going to put the dustbin lid back on in about a 6-8 weeks when it gets real cold but by that time the car will be in a heated garage over nite!!

Looking to get a twin exit exhuast but still pondering on which make!! (RAGE) Any ideas lads? Looking at Janspeed but they dont do twin exit!!

k&n makes a nice grunt when accelerating - its a little louder/rougher sounding.

zorst wise - you want something louder than a peco!? :o go for a cherry bomb! bb4

personally I like a quieter zorst - got a stainless steel back box from a nice novaloader a few months back for ?60! think its magnex - unsure though, Sounds sweet - nice rounded with grunt at fast acceleration.

nice

As for k&n - only ?60 from halfords. Alternatively you can put a performance filter in yer standard box and drill holes in it. Ive one for salke - used it for 1 week before fitting my K&N - not as loud as K&N but still good. But then if yer gonna get a louder zorst it'll drown out enfine noise neway.
