Hello people, Done a search on here but can't find anything that solves the problems im having with my C20XE Nova.

I fitted the Courtenay Group N ECU (same ECU part numbers as original) around a week or so back, all was well and good and i was rather impressed.

On the Friday before PVS i gave my car a good service including oil change (flushed), oil filter, filter cleaned and re treated and coolant changed.

Anyway got going down to PVS on the Saturday morning and she was going well untill i got 60-70 miles from home where it started to missfire slightly and sort of surge.

I didnt think much of it and thought it might clear its self but was very wrong, got around 100 miles from home and it was missfiring like mad, flaming and surging to the point i was struggling to keep going.

Pulled into the next services and had a look at the plugs which where very black, cleaned them up but was no better, changed the leads - made no difference, swaped AFM and which again didnt solve it.

Drove round the carpark and the car was struggling to set off and smoking really bad.http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif
Rang the RAC but they was going to be an hour, remembered i had my spare ECU in the car so thought id give it a go.

Fitted the standard ECU, fired up first time, no smoke, no missfire and ran mint! Anyway went all the way down to PVS (another 100 miles) and back with no problems what so ever. http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif

Any help would be really appreciated, would love to solve the problem and put it right.

Thanks again and sorry for the essay http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/lmao.gif

I think it is simply the fact that the ecu is a competition one, and thus it is set to stick more fuel in the engine for faster acceleration. it will not fuel correctly for cruising down the motorway, & the engine won't like it at all.
I think you have actually found the cure, run down the motorway on the std ecu, then swap it at the pod.

Thanks for the reply. Its very weird how it was running fine for a week or so then ran so bad to the point it could not be driven and then all of a sudden it ran perfect when the old ECU was fitted.

Would love to find out what it was, my suspicion is maybe the fueling as the plugs where very black but would like a second opinion?

Cheers

I disagree. Is it definately a genuine Courtenay Grp-N chip?

I've had experience of the Courtenay Grp-N chip. Its a great mod on an XE. It wont overfuel or give any bad issues tbh other than occasional management light coming on which I was told by Courtenay, if/when it does this on startup, turn off (reset) & start again.

Sounds like either the ECU is cooked or a fake perhaps?/

Worth remembering as with all chips/remaps. It is an optimisation of the engine, all other factors & servicing must be up to scratch in order to benefit from the gains. (fuel quality, plugs/leads, ign etc)
