Just brought a new 1.2 Mk2 after the last one got smashed into. :( Anyway, managed to over look the lights as it had 12 months MOT!

Obviously they missed the fact that when I brake the rear lights come on, but so do the heads and the dash (sidelights). However, if the lights are on at night, then no lights get brighter. Its asif the brakes are connected to the sidelights!

Has anyone had this problem and do they know what it is?

I have checked all connections to the lights (without ripping things out).

Would be grateful if someone could inlighten me bcoz Im scared that someone is going to either think I am flashing them to let them go when I aint or that they wont be able to tell that I am slowing down.

Cheers Chris

Sounds like one or both of your brake light bulbs are just standard ones and not proper brake bulbs, that would cause it to knock all your other lights on.

lol happend to me a while back, nuts the first time u realise what happening

hmmm could be,but im not sure bout that one,
but check it.
i think it could be some one done some dodgy wiring,i.e lots of eltrical tape.if it aint the bulbs start tracing the wiring back, make sure it aint earthing some where.
culd take time tho,

 It was the bulb, brake bulb in the indicator and vice versa on offside!
Cheers for your help! Funny how simple it was.
