Whats the difference between an sr one and one that came from a luxe? Looked on auto data at work and theres 3 1400 engines listed, sr engine is 72brake and the other showed 60?

Is it pretty much the same engine?

not sure i dont have the engines to hand, im lookig to buy a 1400 sr engine but was offered a 1400 out of a luxe. I dont want to get the luxe engine if its going to be underpowered compared to the sr lump?

Theres carb'd luxe, and spi luxe......

TBH tho the basic engine is identical.Just fit the sr cam housing/cam/inlet/carb/exhaust manifold/downpipe,dizzy, and that is a 1400sr engine......

Sounds like Baxter has a torque wrench, but it's only got two settings:

FT and QT

Engine codes are,

14NV - twin-choke carb fed, as fitted to earlier 1.4's, 72bhp
C14NZ - Single-Point Injection, aka "Hi-Torque", most commonly found in none-SRi novas, and in shed loads of mk3 astra merits, 60bhp
C14SE - Multi-Point Injection, as fitted to SRi's, early corsa SRi's, and mk3 astra's with LS spec or above, 82bhp,

I've had all three at some point in the last 10 years and the SPi is absolute rubbish for anything more than commuting or shopping, the MPi is fantastic for an 8v 1.4, and goes very well indeed if you bolt a set of carbs and a decent cam onto it.

thats mine, but i only used the block and made 88bhp if i remember correct lol

I used the mpi bottom end (for it's higher compression ratio), with a 1.3 head, inlet and exhaust manifolds, standard 1.3 exhaust system (incl. pea-shooter, ports on exh. manifold opened out to match head and gasket), 32/34 weber dmtl carb (inlet ported to match), modded 1.3 air filter (drilled and tube bit removed), Piper 285 degree camshaft and 14NV dizzy. That little concoction gave 95bhp, but the 32/34 just wasn't supplying enough air even without the filter to get any further, and the dizzy could have done with having it's advance curve modified.

Whats the spec on the X14SZ then?

That'll be an evolution (later version) of the C14NZ, X in place of C becasue of tighter emmissions controls, and the S in place of the N will be for it having a different compression ratio.

The "X" Spi's just have a few different add-ons to make them more emissions friendly. EGR, tank vent valve, knock sensor etc etc
