when u have throttle bodies on a 20litre16valve its about 200 bhp right? but remember seeing in a max power ages ago a grey nova GSI with 20litre 16valve + bodies that had bout 250 bhp and did o-60 in bout 5.5! and was beatin porshes, lotus's and other feckin fast cars etc....!!?? is this pos, and if so how? and how much? and is it drivable day to day, or ever!!
thanx...

Throttle bodies add about 20-30 BHP maybe a little more and will cost about ?1k, and i am not sure but you will need to do other things to your engine to make the run properly. This is only a modification if you are very serious and will probably cost a fortune to run as well :!:

Hope this helps.

Courtenay sports 2litre 16v nova runs at 235bhp @ 7000rpm and 0-60 in 5.8

[quote]and will cost about ?1k

Wrong they will cost about ?2k and they will add about 45-50bhp to your engine providing its in good condition. Rick

Rights, lets inject a little accuracy into this post.

Engines work by buring petrol, to do this tehy need air, to get air they need to breathe.

The standard valver induction limits this breathing, so by replacing it with throttle bodies you help it.

how much you gain from throttle bodies depends on the spec of the rest of the engien and the spec of the bodies themselves.
The best thorttle bodies by far are the tapered ones, such as the SBD kits.

If you have 300+ degree cams and a massive amount of headwork you could be looking at as much as 70+ bhp difference between a decent set of bodies and standard injection.

On a standard engien and with non-tapered bodies you could be looking at gains as slight s 25bhp.

Its not all about the peak power figure though, and one good thing about bodies as opposed to other mods like a hotter cam is that they tend to add torque throguh the majority of the rev range and dont restrict it anywhere.

chip is right, its not what throttle bodies will add. to a standard engine they usually add around 40-70bhp (with a freeflow exhaust).
but its the tuneability once you have done this. with the possibility of much more air being able to enter the engine, and with the mappable ECu and bigger injectors you have muhc more control over the mixture.
With lots of head/piston/cam/oil system work, the 1.6 16v is capable of 240bhp, and the 2L 16v is capable of over 310bhp, which is usually attained at over 8k rpm. Once you have the throttle bodies on there, all you need to do after adding another mod isto get the ecu remaped, and away you go.

note for lurk..........
dont confuse throttle bodies with wot regal/maztzel call throttle bodies, they are nothing like.....

all there version does it replace the restrictive airways/inlet plenum, and that is that, not seperate inlets.

you should see throttle bodies as a set of twin 40's, with an injector for each inlet rather than the carb, and a very advanced ecu system controling it.

Yeah i understand that but you can buy a set of throttle bodies for about 1k (not including the new ECU and loom you will need)

yep as i said regal ones are ?1010 and you can upgrade injectors etc at xtra cost

yeah but as dicko said they arent the same as say Jenvey or SBD throttle bodies this is a complete different set up.
