Afternoon all
Whats the best thing to do to the exhaust ports on my 16xe engine. The casting number is 90400186. Iv bought the head second hand, its already had lots of work done on it but the exhaust ports dont seem right.
A couple have got what look's like metal putty in the small divet at the bottom of the port and a couple are normal.
Should i use a metal putty and fill the divets or remove the putty from the two that have it?
Help is hugely appreciated

metal putty often works when the surfaces are oil free when applied, it will be ok. just ensure the manifolds and gasket are matched to the ports.
if the head has been worked professionally, its unlilkeyy you will get many gains unless you know what your doing.
if it was me, i would cut back the valve guides, as theyre still protruding into the port. and knife edge the web between the valves. im sure i can still see a lip around the base of the valve seat where it meets the casting (as if its never been ground off)
dont go hacking out great lumps of metal as your likely to make them worse.
it looks to me like this head hasnt had much more work than a de-coke and a rub with a brillo pad.
Fill those holes in the remaining ports. Its a worthwhile mod, because as standard they have a cast "bump" on the port floor for the SAI. By flattening the cast, and filling the hole it leaves the port floor flat/smooth=better flowing.

Sorry my mistake. Not being clear, by lots of work i meant titanium caps, double valve springs, solid lifters etc
As for actual work on the casting i dont really knowwhat has been done as its the first time iv looked at the 16v head.
Is there anybody that can post up some pics of the same type of head showing inlet/exhaust.
Thanks
Ste

Anybody else?
Ta
you wanna fill those bits at the bottom so the port is oval, so the bottom is a mirror image to the top if that makes sense lol. also have a look in port number 4 (exhaust) big hole you should fill up too while your there.
