Is it possible to wire up an amp to a stereo wiv out a pre out? i got a kenwood tape  ( i know it's old!!) the 6x9's bang quite good bass out of em, but it's only 4x35w. I need to get an amp and sub. So a guide of how 2 do it would be lovely. Thanx lads.
hi m8 - I've got a kenwood tape unit 4x35 aswell - you can get an adapter if you ont have the preouts (just 2 jack sockets - red and white) from halfords for about a tenner.
As for wiring up an amp - easy m8 - you can get amp wiring kits - about ?25 from halfords, you'll need an amp of course and a set of good quality cable.
The amp wiring kit comes complete with full diagrams (idiot proof - I managed to fit one so must be!)
3 wires -
black - earth (fasten to boot earth under latch run to grnd on amp)
red - live - run direct to battery (must have a fuse inbetween though) - make sure you disconnect battery 1st - bolts onto the + (red) side - connects to the B+ terminal on the amp
blue wire - aux/power out - from the stereo to make the amp come on when the stereo is on. There will be a blue wire running from the ISO cable connector under yer dash behind the stereo - prob taped up
the last 2 wires run from the input on the amp (red and white) to the preout sockets on the rear of the stereo (or adapter)
All you have to do is then wire up the 6x9's (make sure right way) and the sub - this depends on the amp you get though.

hey ade, is your local halfords at the back of harrods? lol
lol - yeah sorry - halfords amp kits ?25!
you can get them atr harrods - solid gold for ?2500!
(have since amended post)
If quality of sound is what you're after rather than just load noise (me sounding old again) either have 6x9s or a sub but not both. They will fight each other for the same air in the boot, sounds KAK!
One solution is to move your 6x9s to the rear quarter panels and 1 sub in the boot.
10" subs will give a crisp, tight base
12" subs will give less quality but greater volume
One last thing VERY important.
Amp the front speakers, not the rears.
Spend money on the fronts, not the rears.
deaden the body panels
Think thats all :D
Amp the sub but don't swamp the fronts
