i've decided to put 16" alloys onto my mk2 nova, how low will it be able to go with these alloys on before it starts rubbing? would i be able to drop it 40mm or 60mm?

providing youve the correct offset (et 45-49) you should be able to go 60mm with some slight arch rolling.

What car do you have at the moment? higher spec models have lower springs that standard novas. So your car could be at 40mm already...

Each cars different - got a m8 who fitted 16's and never had to roll his arches at all - on the other hand my 15's had to remove the lip almost completely (ground it off!)

Before lowering, test the clearence by putting yer fingers up the side of each arch and seeing if it will catch - you can usually see it by just looking. You'll need a few spare mm each side though coz if you corner quickly the tyre wall flexes and may buff the arch wall.

You'll prob end up rolling the arches/grinding them with either 40's or 60's

My mate used to have a nova on 16's. It was lowered about 80 or 90 mm. looked awsome.

Only trouble was his springs were held on with cable ties.

lol, did they ever pop out? i used to have an escort that was on the deck and the springs actually fell out when the car was on jacks.

na they always stayed put.

My old nova's springs used to fall out when the car was jacked up. Used to get a bit annoying

My GSi is lowered 35mm and on 195/45/15"s and only had to grind a bit off of one of the arches :?
this dosent rub at all and i corner it hard (when it runs)

But the club im killing at the moment is lowered 60mm and rubs like a bitch on 14"s :?

I cant take any rear passengers and only my girlfriend can be a front passenger anyone bigger and it bottoms out :!:

how much work would i need 2 do if i went for 17" alloys with a 90mm drop?

check out [www.auto-extreme.com] and go onto the wheel wizard. You can play about with what wheels would like on your car, also how it would look like with either a 30mm, 60mm, 90mm or an extreme drop or even if you are a bit sad, with a standard look. [/url]

If I had 16' i'd go 40mm without changing the Dampers, If I had the Full Kit and 16''s Id go 50-60, don't forget full kits are severe on chasis and handling will change imensly. My car is lowered 40 on standard dampers on 15s and it handles well and looks sweet. :fist:

If you want 17's and a 90mm drop, u will most probably have to look at slightly flaring the arches on the front. The back my need a little work to the inner arch, but it will depend if the wheels catch or not.

Make sure you get uprated dampers if you lower it that much, as some if not all are shorter than standard ones.

Otherwise you could go round a corner hard and your spring pops out. What be pleasent.

To go -90 mm lower on the back of a nova on 17's is not possible and anyone that says that they have done it without mega amounts of work is talking bollocks. The rear beam would need moving backwords as the biggest problem is that the wheels catch on the front of the back arches (where the sideskirt mounts). This is because the beam piviots on a arch so as you go lower the wheel moves forward in the arch causing it to rub. Rick

Just wondering how low avo coilovers go at the rear. The original coilovers not there new version, as I have loads of room in my rear arches. Enough for bigger than what I'm runnin (18's).

Just wonderin.

Magnex- 15"s should fit easy enough as long as you got a high offset. (et45-49) if its less than et42 you will start encountering problems with rubbing/handling.
