oil from fuel pump

just checked the fuel pump and found that the pump is leaking black substance (oil like ) but smells purely of fuel

any ideas people

and flat spots around 4k mark
also some times flat spots when changing gear

What engine? fuel pump attatched to the cam carrier as in a 1.2/1.3/1.4 carb engine? if so, it'll be the gasket leaking.

Could just be leaking fuel but dirty fuel hence the blackness, either that or its cleaning any poo off the pump body as it leaks and making the fuel dirty.

Is it actually the pump leaking or the hose? Are any of the hoses damp? Maybe the hoses connected to the pump are perished and a weeping fuel.

Is this oily substance thick or runny? If its runny then its deffo fuel and not oil.
