I've just (literally this second) finished my Degree. Never do a degree in architecture if you want a social life.
I actually don't know what to do with myself now :confused::eek:

One of my ex friends was doing a degree in architecture.
He had to do some sort of foundation course first and said it'd be 7 years before he'd finish the degree. That was the last I heard from him :D

Nice one, can relate to that feeling. I finished my three year Computer Science degree last Tuesday, feels like you should be revising for exams or doing some coursework instead of playing with cars!

I've got another year on my foundation degree to do then another three years after that :cry: [its no fun being part-time but one good thing is your tuition fees are paid!]
5 years on and I still wish I was a student.... no matter how little money you had in the bank, you could ALWAYS have fun.

Alex, we had someone working for us for 2 months who had done three degrees, they left to do guess what?? Another degree haha. She was like 50k in debt or something though :eek:
Went to a night out at uni the other month during the week, was too weird, everyone seemed really young and they had rebuilt the inside so didn't feel the same anyway. Pah students haha

^^ lol Ive been to the union here a few times and I feel so out of place as everyone seems so young. It was only 2 years ago I graduated but feels like ages ago.
Look forward to being depressed for at least 18 months trying to find a job and failing.
On the plus side since i now work at a uni I can pretend im a student for the rest of my life, the working atmosphere is just like student life. Ive even encouraged to go an play sports during work hours.

Wish I'd have gone on to research now..office work sucks.
Couple of my mates are doing research, reckon its great...no real rigid working hours and they can still 'play' student! Bugger!

go travelling! one of my biggest regrets was not going when all my mates did. once you start work and earning money, buying houses etc it gets harder and harder to go.
We always end up at our union at the end of pub golf nights and yeah, I normally feel like a perv too. Pulled this 18yr old lass last year and had forgotton how firm bottoms are at that age! lol I'm 26 btw.

I miss uni soooooo much... Interest free overdraft, cheap living, lots of drink and the memories... Was awesoem in Swansea, saying feck it to lectures and going down the beach :)
I'd say go travelling if you have the money, i regret not doing it. Well, travelled more lol and get a sh!tty job to keep moeny coming in, i finished uni, had my shoulder rebuilt then worked in a drift prep place once that had healed in August still looking for "proper" jobs lol and quit there in December and didnt get a job till March... Happy chap now though :)
The weirdest bit, is Sep/Oct time, when everyone goes back to uni and you're not :(
I was never cut out for that higher education malarky. Having to pay to do work? Feck that!

Well, i regret not going uni ;last year although i stall can lol only 19! My plan is to go travelling some point next year, although i did say that last year. Maybe the year after? LOL, now im in fulltime work and hating it already after about 6 months! Although I think its gotta be better than coming out in debt. :D IMO

You generally find its the people that DON'T go to uni that say that. Yes, you come out with a loan but its dribbled out your wages and you barely notice it.
Far easier to run up a debt in the "real world"

I didn't go to to uni till I was 21 and is, without a doubt the best thing I've done. I should have gone earlier but as said its easy to get stuck in a rut in a dead and job and lose perspective.
So now I'm going to pass out of uni when I'm 27 which is good and bad I suppose ;)
Meanwhile, back at the thread.......
Much as I dislike architects as a genre (they usually hate me as well, its got something to do with trying to build the damned things that they draw), I reckon you should try & find work at a varied practice, ie Domestic & commercial, because I find most of them seem to specialise in one particular thing & get stuck. You would be amazed how often the same things appear on different plans.......
Also, try & get as much on site experience as possible & none of that ivory tower stuff........
Once you start earning all that money, the fun will follow

And buy then the repayments are easily manageable.
I regret not going uni after college, i would have finished my 3years now....
And been able to look for a decent job instead of the ****e money i put up with atm lol
Student Loan isnt a real debt anyway.
and a £2K interest free overdraft is a piece of piss to pay off once you earn money as you are so used to not having any cash that you dont spend what you earn till about 6 months later when you realise you can buy nice beer, nice wine, nice food and then it all goes wrong lol
I'm still paying off my student loan, £50 a month which I'd much rather have in my pocket :(
That only really covers my interest I think, and I only had a £6.5k loan lmfao lol
I never made it to Uni, I failed all my final exams, yes ALL of them, as a rebelious statement that I just could not be ****d with any of it!!
So when everyone was at Uni, I was hard at work on a building site doing the best job I ever had, Labouring. So on a Thursday night out, i always had money in my pocket as the poor students were counting coppers!!
Now, 8 years on, I'm working as a Quantity Surveyer, working 9-3, spending most of the day on here and getting well paid. Its all good!!

That's kind of correct. This is how it goes.
3 Year Degree.
1 Year "Part 1" Work Placment
2 Year "Part 2" Diploma (back at university :))
1 year (typically) "Part 3", which is working in practice again, and a proffesional examination.
So, yes it's 7 years. Theres no "foundation" as such, as it's a Degree/Diploma.
So i've got 2 years back at university, technically a Postgraduate though :(.
