i have not turned the girlfreinds nova over for a while partly being the battery was flat(so i thought) so i put it out on the street jump start it give it a minute b4 i try and start her then their she goes.So i take her for a trip round the block a few times and let her idle for ten minutes but soon as i turn her off and try to start her again it is totally dead so on/off on/off go the jump leads untill i thought i'll hook up the jump lead but not turn any off the engines on ,i just turn the donnor cars ingnition on and try to start the nova there she goes no problem as long as the jump leads r connect and the other cars ingnition is on.

so what is the cause of this as i thought the battery but if the battery is not holding a charge would'nt u need to run the other engine for a bit to cahrge the dead one?

same thing happend with mine, was off the raod for six months and only got turned over about once a month to move it. Went to use it again and the battery wouldnt hold a charge. Stuck a new battery on it and its sound now.

either fcuked battery, or alternator. if you can get an voltmeter off somebody, put it on ur battery, whilst conected to the other car, start it up, and disconect the jump leads, the voltage should stay highish, then turn off the ignition, if it doesntr drop very much when u do this the alt is screwed, or............
put in a different battery and elimanate that as the cuase

when jumping a car your not charging the dead battery your allowing the car to use the other cars battery to crank the engine

its advisable to have the engine of the booster car running incase u drain the booster battery tryin to start the dead one

if the only problem is the battery is dead simply hookin the batteries together without the engine running will work fine
