I heard that it did do about 165mph but 0-60 was about 14seconds because of the weight and the 18inch alloys.

He used to take it to the Manchester PNG meets (Region 2 i think) near TGI fridays (every second Sunday of every moth?). I've seen it around a few times, as he lives in Barnoldswick. Which isn't too far from New York, where i reside.

there was loads of pics on novamad of that car but they have been taken off now, as for putting the engine in the corsa the corsa engine bay is smaller than the nova isn't it ???

165mph yeah right, i would say it is nigh on impossible to reach those sort of speeds in a nova due to the aerodynamics.

was chatting to a guy the other day who said his 2.0l 8v will do 0-60 in 5 seconds and 160 top speed, i just nodded and wandered off as couldnt be bothered with the row.

It was in Max power septembers 2001 and under performance it says
Max power - 200bhp
Max speed - 160mph+
0-60 in 5 seconds!
All I can say is what Crap.

One of my 'mates' once said he did 130mph in his 1.3sr. And that it was faster than Cosworths.

Think i remember reading something about that car killing front suspension at a allarming rate :o because of the weight. And sa for the top speed its very doubtful, but i think he could have got a indicated top speed of about that (10% speedo error accounting for tyres ect..)

I had a indicated 116 four up in my 1.4L with GTE clocks but it was probs about 105 - 110 :(

my car does 0-60 in 0.1 seconds and it tops out at a million miles an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!

The power claims could just be estimates and based on the engine/weight of the car, and not actual power/top speed i.e. not taking into account things like aero dynamics. It doesn't mean that he's sat there in the car and watched the speedo get up to 160, does it?

Also, it could be possible that it was insured for ?20,000. If you get Courtenay or Regal to fit the engine conversion you'd be looking at around ?8,000, plus there's the cost of the other mods too. I am sceptical, but it could be possible. Though based on the cost to build 'a replica' with all labour/parts paid for.

I mean look at jamie shaws GT5, that was insured for ?45,000 or so, and the GT Turbo built by Dawsons - they're claiming it would cost ?35,000 (or something) to build an exact replica. And Lance, with his claims of ?25,000.

I dont think the 20k claims are that bad really i know that Colin Smith spent nearly 40k on his rally car, obviously that was over the years with various high spec engines etc, but it soon mounts up.
