When i rang Coil springs and told them that i was after some 'uprated poundage' springs for my XE GTE to fit big piston billys and told them i had been advised to get around 300lb they laughed and said not a chance!

They advised me to go for a rate of around 160lb. In the end i went for 200lb and they are spot on, doesn't bounce about, solid enough without rattling your teeth out and handles so much better.

They reckoned its only 2.0 Nova track cars that sould be anywhere near 300lb

Probably about right, the Courtenay ones are firm but quite long, need a good deal of compressing to get them in.

Std springs are actually quite close as are Eibachs.

I used 275lb when I had the XE in mine, the ones that come with Nova coilover kits are 250lb and they were only meant for a 1.6 at best.

Maybe coilover springs require a higher rate compared to the bigger standard style springs?

a spring rate is a apring rate.... the spring could be 100miles wide but if its a 200lb/inch spring it will deflect as much as a 1mm diameter spring of the same rating....

as stu said, a spring rate is the same for all springs no matter what size.

My manta runs 400lb front springs lol on big pistons billys :)
