hey all, went and fetched me a new block today.was off a chap called dave sterling, was helpful enough and new what he was talking about etc. anyone heard of him before?

anyway, from looking at sbd's site it says for longer lift and duration for the cams i need to have pocketed pistons? do i definately need them or would there be a set amount of lift i could have?:tard:

from what dave told me he had the following done to the block,

+0.5mm overbore (what cc would that make it know then?)
+0.5mm new standard ae pistons
arp rod bolts
all balanced
sbd oild pump gear and new housing.

he had this block in his nova which was running throttle bodies so it should be ok for what i have planned.:)

know considering i only have the block, i will need the majority of other parts to complete the engine.so i think i will buy a complete spare engine.take what i need and sell that block on.

are there any problems that occur with these engines that i could address before i delve to deep into the project and forget to change?

ive prob got lots of questions but cant think of them at the moment.:wtf:

if any body can advise me would be good.

thanks:thumb:

I was going have that block!
PRoper bargain.

.5 overbore would make it about 1620cc or something like that

Yes you need pocketed pistons to run decent cams. Anything over the 266deg duration usually needs deeper pockets.

Dave Stirling (Nova-X)? Yeah I know him vaguely.

I assume this was his TB'd smallblock that is no more?

yeah thats the man and yeah thats the block he used.

do you know what the full spec of the engine was? will prob email him in a short while.got to go down again as hes got a windscreen and a bonnet i want.:D

so,is it worth having such mild cams or should i just buy new pistons? idealy i didnt want to do that but you need what you need.

You dont need new pistons.
Just have the existing pockets deepened by 2mil

i didnt know you could do that.

where can do that and do you know how much it would cost?

i dont think theyve been done already.will have to ask him and what cams he used.:thumb:

They have pockets in standard pistons, but there not deep enough to run good cams.

Most engineering/engine places should be able do it.
Probably £50-£100

thats a snippit of the price for new pistons.

thanks ad.just looking through your WIP for any tips.

No real engine detail in my wip im afraid.
My x16xe has never been in bits(touch wood)

i also got me a nice engine stand in with the price of the block,so saved me some money there.hehe
