blower motor rubber seal

Hi folks i changed my heater blower which was fairly straight forward, however on the bulkhead where is sits under the bonnet, there was a rubber seal round it. The one that was there was perished so i bought double sided sticky tape to seal it but its not working as its letting a wee bit of water in. Any ideas. A local mechanic suggested mastic or tiger seal!!
