you can get legal ones from dubmister iirc mine are classed as show plates. But they are black font on the front with a white back an black font with a yellow on the rear.

Metal plates aren't legal.

[edit] Scratch that, the new dubmeister ones are supposed to be compliant to BS 145d

Not for cars registerd after 1977 iirc
Although saying that, my golf has passed 2 MOT`s with UK font pressed metal plates, and ive never been pulled for them
Its a "grey area" with them

Its not a grey area at all. The new ones are 100% legal and im getting a set for pvs so ill bring the papers to prove they are legal. Tho there are very few places that do the legal ones but my local shop seems to think his is the first place to do them

Actually, dont plates have to be made to only have a certain amount of reflectiveness? (a word :p lol )
Metal ones will naturally reflect more, i want to know how theyve played with the properties of making metals to change how much they reflect, must be what they coat them in?
Have you got any pics of them?

You're thinking of silver on black? Thats pre-1973.

Dubmeister ones apparently conform to BS 145d (an in depth publication all about the properties of the reflective material used), which means they must have some form of reflective paint/backing on them.

Wow, thats the plates we're legally supposed to have over here, if they're incorrect, its an NCT (National Car Test) Fail.

if the number plates do not have the Postal code of where they were made and the BSAU markings then they are illegal. a friend had 100% legal plates on his corsa and just because they didnt have these markings the police confiscated his plates and made him drive home without any.

no matter what size shape or whatever they are if they dont have the postcode and bsau mark its illegal, you can get fined, even get the plates confiscated like what happened to my mate..

That's only a recent ammendment to the legal spurl, Plates made up before that was added are still legal, otherwise 95% of the cars in the country would be needing new plates. And how can you proove how old a number plate is?

that was like a year maybe 2 years ago when his plates got confiscated due to no bsau markings
