16" wheels will go on with out probs if you fit et49 with the wolfrace i think these are et42 wich might cause a few probs although this isnt that much out, you might get away with just grinding the first few mm of the rear arches.

would 17" alloys fit on, if they would, how much would it rub?

right there are about 3-4 posts on this page with this info on at the moment so very briefly, you will lose quite a bit of your lock , the narrowest tyres you can get are 205's wich rub like shit and will bounce if you have people in the back.

oh god are people gonna argue this one.

I pretty sure anything 15" plus will catch if your arches arent rolled, if lowerd of course. Just get yr arches rolled (rear only will do) and slap on a set of 16's.

U may be able to get a way with 17's, some people have no problems, some do.

Its up to u and how much work you are prepared to do or pay for.

if it is a mk2 then you should get away with it you may have to do a bit of work but not much if it is mk1 you will have to do some work but the have a tolerance of 4mm so it may be 4mm further out that some one elses so you may not have so much to do
